At hobby Lobby they have that sack of available leather called the "Farmers Cut". Is this stuff good for any leather working, tooling, etc... Does it have any advantages or limitations to speak of. Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Most of those farm and ranch bags contain oil tanned leather scraps which would be worthless for tooling, and I doubt there will be anything in there with enough size to get a sheath. The bags I've seen are mostly string, straps and smaller odd shape pieces. They come in handy for quick in the field repair jobs etc, hence the name "Farmer's Cut". Not something I would buy…..well mostly because I already have better scraps in my trash bin. Good Luck.
