Farming out for heat treat?

Hi. I've got four custom blade profiles, all beveled, that need to be heat treated. I don't have a furnace, or room for one, to do the heat treat myself. Is there anywhere I can ship them to to have them heat treated for a reasonable price? Or better yet, is there anyone around central Utah who can do this? Any help is appreciated.

Get ahold of Brad @ Peters Heat Treat. Great guy-company and a pretty good turnaround.

I've used both Peter's Heat Treat as well as Paul Bos in Idaho. They both did great work You can look either up on google. FYI, Bos doesn't do oil quench.

Paul Bos supposedly retired, is the heat-treating service there continuing as normal? Are the prices on the brochure still valid? They say as of 2005.

Thanks,

Ben

Just found info in an older thread that says services are continuing as normal. You get a lot of results when searching "Paul Bos". I posted the previous before I'd gone through enough of them.

You could check locally for a machine shop that could HT for you. I would go with either Bos or Peters HT. Both have dedicated departments that specialize in knives. I've used Peters and would recommend them without hesitation. The Bos company still has an excellent reputation, as seen in the posts above.

Another quick question. Each piece is around 12"x2"x3/16". The blade lengths are between 6" and 7". All are 1095. About how hard would be ideal for these? I'm thinking around 60RC unless anyone has better input on this.

I bought some ATS34 and plan to do some Loveless style hunters but don't feel confident in HT'g them myself.

I read that Loveless at one time used Pacific Heat Treating in Sunnyvale Ca. which I think is run by Bill Holt, don't know about him but have heard of Holt/Sornberger knives and at one time went to Sornbergers to buy supplys in Sunnyvale.

Anyway ,wondering if anyone is using PHT'g, or knows about them.

Thanks Mark Behnke
