Today I’ll introduce you the Farol Encan

I bought this knife a couple of years ago directly next to the Farol shop
http://www.farol.fr/
right in the beautiful city of La Rochelle (FR), placed next to the ocean, S-W side of France’s coast

Any specs of the knife, directely from the Farol’s internet site:
“This knife is named after the place where it was designed and finally built. It is a simple and easy knife to use, the blade forged from a Swedish steel '12c27' is extremely sharp and its wooden handle has a pleasing shape.

This knife is very light due to the simple and clever locking system we have invented. A simple straight spring lock keeps the blade in the open position and a simple pressure of you thumb releases the blade back into the closed position.

You can order seperately, a very nice leather holster to accompany your knife.

Available in 3 sizes 8, 10 & 12 cms. Note.... the smallest is 'THE' one to open oysters with. “

As a side note, mine Encan has a blade 9 cm long (thickness 2 mm): maybe some years ago the measures available were different than today. Anyway, for me it’s just perfect.

Let’s the pics talk. The first feeling when you handle this knife is “lightness”

In fact, the metal parts are reduced as more as possible

Also the locking system is very light, even if effective. The locking system is a spring lock placed on the indentation on the back of the blade

To unlock the blade, you need to pull out the spring

Than you may fold the blade

The blade of the knife is polished, razor sharp

The leather sheath of this knife it’s very well done

Allowing you to wear it on horizontal position on your belt

A very light knife, excellent for light/medium cutting tasks, and particularly for a marine environment.
Regards,
Alfredo

I like the elegant shape of this knife. Any pics of it in action cutting things? How is the steel? Is it expensive? Can it take a lot of pressure or is it better suited for cutting cheese and fruit? Thank you.

Hi. No pics, I never used it actually, just carried a bit and used to slice bread and salami :-) The steel is quite good, being the Sandvick 12C27, obviously is stainless, but non sure about the temper. I never need to resharpen it, also. The knife cost me some 100 euros without the sheat, if I remember well. The structure of the knife is quite robust for a folder so light (just 50grams), anyway I would use it for cutting food, ropes, tissues, cardbord, cleaning fish and stuff like these, not for carving woods or heavier tasks. Just my opinion.

Thank you. The sheath doesn't come with it?

Thank you for sharing! Like RW said above, it does have an elegant shape. The sheath is beautiful too.
