...close at hand, at any rate!:D

I just bought this knife from my friend Stuart, who I think made the sheath for this knife, (which is one of the best made sheaths I've seen, even though it's not too fancy) for an incredibly good deal.

Dan Farr's knives are very appealing to me, because, at their core, they are made to work. Doesn't sound too ground breaking, but in this day and age of knives which are seemingly made to exist just so they can admired, it's becoming increasingly rare to stumble across really well made functional knives. Such is my experience, I don't mean to come off as saying that everything is always like that all the time.

Anyway, this 52100 hunter is quite hefty at 5.5mm thick. It is a used knife, and that's ok with me:thumbup:

Thanks a lot Stuart!:)

Ha ha... nice one Lorien! Glad you like it. It's a really great knife.
I'm happy to say the funds are going towards a forge that I'll pick up Sunday so that makes both of us happy! :)

Yes I did that sheath about 2 years ago when the knife belonged to someone else. I got it from him last fall.
I'm happy to see it has stood up well.

Congrats, Lorien, NICE snag and Farr's are hard to get !
Nice sheath, too ! :)

thank you all, and Doug, the best part is Stuart and I live within an hour drive of each other:thumbup:. It's cool to meet another dude who has similar taste in knives, and so nearby. Definitely a friendship in the making, I'm proud to say:)

Some history on that knife. It was early Dan Farr that Matt Roberts bought. Matt said that Dan was one of the influences who got him interested in becoming a knifemaker. I bought it from Matt back in '05 or '06. Had to sell it along with some others in '08 to help out family. Good to see that it's gone to Stuart as well as Lorien.

Funny that you had it so long ago as I still have that Mark Banfield knife you sold around the same time.

Interesting history on the Farr. I did the sheath when it was owned by Bill Burns. I commented how much I liked it. Well he finally sold it and I missed it by 1/2 a day but the guy who bought it turned around and sold it a week or two later. Bill bought it back. I sent him an email saying I couldn't believe I missed it twice. :p So in kindness he sold it to me. I carried it daily for 7 months until I made my own edc. I'm glad it went to Lorien so I can visit it sometimes. :):p

that's great, thanks for the history, I really appreciate that:thumbup:

I'm also glad to know that it has been used by at least three people to help another out;

-used by Dan Farr to draw Matt Roberts further into knife making
-used by Grapevine to aid family, (the highest calling)
-used by Stuart to get a forge and follow in Dan and other's footsteps as the great knife makers of our time, (no pressure, Stuart. Not TOO much:D)

And so I will pay it forward when the time comes.
Such is the circle of knife:)

Funny too that of the people who've owned it, Matt's become an award winning maker himself, Stuart should be on his way there as well judging by his first few knives, Lorien has tried his hand at making his own knife, and I dabbled in it for a couple of weeks by attending the intro class at the ABS school in Arkansas as a vacation.

COOL. Nice knife and sheath with an interesting history! I like the mortised scales and that is some nice looking stag. 52100 is great steel too.

There are not many material objects, especially in used condition, that one can attach so much respect and interest. It speaks well of the maker. Dan has influenced a lot of makers, myself included. Lin

Glad it is still is the family boys:D. Enjoy in good health Lorien.

I've been carrying this knife around a fair bit.
I love this knife, it feels awesome and it works great for pretty much anything. I could shave with it if I wanted to, it's amazing what kind of edge I can bring up with this knife, and it does seem to hold that edge beyond what I've grown to expect from a knife. 52100 is some pretty nice stuff.

My scabrous ole Chevy doesn't add much to the picture, but it's my work truck and I love it.

Gotta love a job where one gets paid to swing a knife around in the woods for hours on end...
:)

solid and well done.
all youneed from a nicely done knife, and don't need a fancy sheat since it is seem very well made!

Cheers!
