Fashioning a water container from natural materials

For carrying water, I prefer to use bark sheets from a Tulip Poplar, but you can only peel the bark when the sap is running in the spring. A sheet of this and some pitch glue will get you a very nice canteen.

For boiling water, I'd weave an open-topped basket out of kudzu or wysteria or honeysuckle and coat the outside with pitch glue to waterproof it. Then I'd add a steady procession of very hot rocks from the fire.

That's a lot of work, either way, so it's best to prepare ahead of time.
