I'm pressed for time, idk how long the hardware store is opened?

I'm making a horizontal knife for my nephew, I want to give it to him tomorrow.

I found in my stash a Teklok sheath clip, it looks very heavy duty.

Do people who use these only mount with 2 screws???
They give you nine holes, but the footprint is kinda small, I was hoping to get two screws above the spine, and 2 below the edge.....but Idk how to do that?

Any help would be great!

Thanks

Two screws is all I’ve ever used.

I do like the new style tec lock. It’s better than the previous versions.

I’ve always used a tec lock with 2 screws. Not my favorite way to carry, but 2 screws should be secure.

It looks secure (the clip) for horizontal carry.
It's a smaller knife, and I think this should be carried horizontal.

Other options are better?

I have 3 different types: one has a latch that you flip to lock/unlock, one you squeeze the sides to unlock and the newest one has a push button on the top to release. The push button one is nice.

Mine is flip a top switch, Then squeeze the 2 sides.

Two screws diagonally. My Civivi Tamashii came with a kydex where the lock was monted with two screws side-by-side, basically cantilevered. Not good, lots of flex. Moved one of the screws to the other side, diagonally opposed to the first - rock solid. No idea why they would mount it the way they did at the factory.

If I’m understanding you the best solution I know of is to make another small kydex “mounting plate”. This can be whatever size is needed for the sheath in question, and you can add multiple holes to the plate if you want the option to cant the teklok. Good luck!

Do you have non bulky versions of that?
-that was my first thought too....but I haven't seen anything good, yet.

I normally make taco style, IWB styles, so fit, and trim is what I always want ...
If possible

No - it’ll be bulky on a taco style because you’ll probably want the mounting kydex to go around the taco (a second, smaller taco essentially).

If you haven’t yet made the sheath, you could also tape a couple of dowel slices to the knife before you form the sheath. These would make space for bolt heads on the inside of the sheath so they wouldn’t scratch the blade.

For horizontal carry, soft loops with pull the dot snaps, work best for me. This method keeps the knife tight to my belt and is easy to get on and off. The sheath also stays put when drawing and inserting the blade.

This pic shows my Sosby setup for horizontal carry with a soft loop.

Now......You are opening a whole New can of worms....haha. :/
My Glock carry rig has one pull the dot strap on it.
What out of nowhere last week, it Just broke in half.

I didn't notice any wear or cracking. I rarely if ever pull open the snap.
It just disintegrated, and broke for no reason. The rubber must have a short shelf life.

Public Service Announcement....... Go look at your shit.
Make sure it's Safe.

Kinda why I wanted to look for a different option.

I’m a big fan of the mono block clip, I have them on all my appendix carry holsters. Nothing to wear out.

I second the motion for soft loops. I can't stand tekloks unless they're being used on a rigid duty belt or some such. To me it feels like the knife is being held outward, away from the body and feels less secure - almost floppy.

Soft loops are comfortable, easily adjustable, and hold the knife as securely as you'd like. They're easy to pop on and off without removing a belt and hold securely when snapped (I've never had one unexpectedly pop open during use). Virtually all of my smaller fixed blades either have been or are slowly being converted to horizontal carry with soft loops.

Thanks Everyone who helped... I'm going to look into some of the other clip suggestions.
-i have some smaller EDC knives coming out next year, so it will be good for me to find some options....

You guys are right, 2 screws are pretty ridged.
Idk how, or If he is going to like and carry this, so I think it's good for now. I'm liking the way it rides. It is a hair bulkier with this clip, but very secure.

I kanted the angle some to account for some droop. He's around 6-4 to 6-5.... Bigger than me.
I'm sure it will wear/hide better on him

This is only the 3rd pancake sheath I've made, I'm really happy with it.

Thanks, again!!!
