Hi,

I want to change my FSH slabs and I'm looking for this kind of plain bolt Fasteners that can fit a busse knife. Any idea where I can get some in stainless? Thanks!

I used to hang out at a custom knifemakers place and watch him make knives. Those bolts are stainless with screw slot heads to start with. To start with he would lock tight the treads and tighten them down on the handles. The he would grind them down until the screw slots were no longer visable. He'd polish them up a bit along with the handles, then that was it' I'm sure Busse uses the same type method. Any knife maker supply type place should have them. Well I hope I've helped you out somewhat. Good luck,

I'm pretty sure that d76nato nailed it. Those are 'Corby' bolts, with the slots sanded off of them, and basically permanent. There are some hex-head bolts and standoffs available at USA Knifemaker's supply (along with some other places) that would work to replace the tube fasteners, though I'm not sure what size you'd want.

One thing to be aware of - if you're going to have those sorts of fasteners, you are pretty much stuck with a smooth handle, unless you apply any texturing AFTER you put the bolts onto the knife, since you will have to sand the bolts flush with the handle material, and that's gonna be dang near impossible to do without also removing some of your slabs to get a nice smooth transition.

Smooth bolts are some of the sexiest handles ever, though, so I understand why you'd want to do them... if you take on the project, I hope you'll post pictures. An FSH with smooth bolts looks pretty good...

It might just be my color blindness at work here, but is that one double cut, or coated?

Or are your pictures just lousy? :D

Nice... I don't know how I missed that the first time around. DCBB is pretty awesome

Many thanks! English is not my native language and I'm a little lost with "inches" measurements... Do you know the size I need ?

I got a question does the corby bolts hold up better, I beat the piss out of my Sarsquatch,(AKA my "Yettie" )and my NMFBM (AKA "The tree dropper")

The holes in the blade tang (handle) are .250" (1/4"), so, I would get the bolts with the .250" small shaft dia. and the .312 head. Now, just so you know, there is a lot of fitting to be done to the bolts and handle to make it all work. I would buy one of the custom step drills they sell. This make the drilling and counterboring easier. Have fun!

I think if you do it right, I think they will be better. What I mean by "do it right" is that the smaller diameter shaft goes from one handle thru the blade tang and also thru the handle on the other side, thus making a solid connection.

And did the tube rivets hold up?

There have been cases of folks who beat on the knives pretty heavily and the scales were loosened. Busse took care of them, of course.
