How's it going guys just got bit by the tomahawk axe bug looking at these three options the estwing seems to be the strongest I'm looking for something primarily more for self-defense and possibly learning how to throw a tomahawk out of these three what do you guys prefer? I tend to trust Cold Steel a little more than SOG these days although I like how small/ light the fast Hawk is

Trenchhawk for self defense. Frontier hawk for throwing. Trail hawk for bushcraft. Estwing for truck/end of world scenario. Boys axe or Hudson Bay axe for camp use. I am not a fan of the sogs.

I have the standard Estwing Black Eagle as well as the BE Double Bit. Both are outstanding values, and nearly indestructible. For a fighting weapon or a sturdy chopper, either does the job. I would get the Cold Steel for throwing, and avoid SOGs for anything. YMMV

I have a couple SOGs and if you don't throw them I can't imagine breaking the handles in normal use. They are a bit soft but every axe under $100 is these days. The wood handle cold steels are all pretty nice after some refinement. I thinned the edge and cleaned up the handle fit/socket and took off the paint on my trail hawk and I enjoy it much more. Estwing are nice but kinda thick behind the edge for knife like use but they chop great and are bulletproof.

I've got a fast hawk, Voodoo, Estwing hawk, and the Estwing double bit.

For throwing, I think the SOGs will loosen up pretty quick. They are built well, but there is only so much stress polymer mated with steel running through it can take.

However throwing the Estwing is like throwing a framing hammer. Probably because the Estwing is fitted with the rubber grip of a framing hammer:D

I think the SOG hawks make for good tactical use and the Estwings are great for hard use. I think the smooth wood handle of the CS hawks throw the best and are the easiest to replace.
