steel ebony--antique walnut--& steel snakewood
it's a little difficult to see the deeper coloration of the new steel bolsters. all still maintain nickel silver shields but the old blade ink is gone & in place the very nice stamped logo.i would love to see this stamped logo on all models since the ink is very easily removed & tends to mar the flowing lines of the blades.hopefully another member will show a pic of the ebony which is better than mine. this 1st bunch of steel ebonies only had a small number issued.

Hey hey hey! It's Fat Albert!

Dig the shields they use on these chubby guys.

I am curious why GEC have to stamp the blade itself now? Isn't the stamp on the tang sufficient? At least with the etch before you could remove a good deal of it if you didn't like it. I personally don't like either the stamp or the etch on the blade itself.

I happen to like the new stamped blades. I realize not everyone likes the etching or the stamps, but fortunately in our free society, noone is forced to buy GEC knives.

Perhaps it shouldn't be a take it or leave it proposition in our "free society"...Maybe it would make good business sense for GEC (and other manufacturers) to court and accommodate the opinions of folks like Luciano who might prefer another option. Nobody said they couldn't do it more than one way (and it's certainly economically feasible).

True that Elliot!!

Well, the etches do come right off with Flitz. It's what the wise people at GEC have decided was what they wanted for their products, in their mercy. Still if it bothers people that bad, then they should realize that there are other brands they can select from, it's not either/or at all; rather which one shall I choose.

Well, I must be the odd man out here, but neither the etching or the stamping on the blades bother me at all.
What I can't abide is the double pulls. I think they're unnecessary, and besides, they ruin the look of a beautiful swedge.
I'd take mine with just the long pull between the swedge and bolster.

We'll just have to agree to disagree and leave it at that.

I think Elliot makes a good point. Both about agreeing to disagree and the idea that maybe knife makers should consider offering options. As a customer, I have passed on knives I would have otherwise purchased because I like plain blades. Some folks like it, some don't. Like chrome on Motorcycles. Guess I like things plain.

Those are beautiful knives, of course. I just like a simple tang stamp and that's it. But that's me. I should add, just picked up some old Scrimshaw schrades, and the blade adornment bothers me on them, too.

personally, i don't mind the etching or the stamps on the GECs. just part of the offering to me.
i will, however, also have to agree to disagree with a preference stated above, as i LOVE the double pulls! put double pulls and that swedge on just about anything and i'll be happy:D

Every time I see it I am more convinced that the Antique Walnut Sunfish is the best looking knife they have made yet.

Yeah, that's one of my favorites, too. Unfortunately, I missed out, and those Antique Walnut Sunfish were all gone by the time I got 'round to 'em.

i believe that the antique walnut was the only sunfish to garner that shield. however i'm not as up on all the variations as mamba & joe bob.
