I'm working on a project of strippin' my new Fat FFBM and just put in about 3 hours worth of effort so far... I need help and motivation so I'm posting some pics of her for all to see. Please let me the easiest way to get the blade to be smooth enough for me to polish it. Any help would be appreciated....

It`s coming along well ! Don`t give up your nearly there , just take a break grab a cold beer ! Don`t forget to keep us posted

Any tips for me??? I really want to hit the buffer machine but am not sure as the surface is still too rough to my eye. Any help is greatly appreciated boys!!

You left the surface above the saber grind line alone on purpose, right? It doesn't look too rough below that line. Are you going to buff it to mirror? I remember hawkins wrote he only hand sanded to 800 grit, and then went to the buffer and achieved a perfect mirror finish. His looked just like yours before he buffed it out. I'd say you're there.

Doing one myself made me appreciate why the satins cost extra from the factory.

I'm fully inspired now.....that's to say the least. I will attempt a mirror polish.
Maybe I can be the first with a polished, I mean mirror polished Fat FFBM!!!
What do you guys say?

GunSite, how do you work around the handle area? I find it the most difficult place to do anything not mention mirror polishing. Thanks for your help! I am inspired like crazy and won't stop until the job is done and complete. Just hoping that my fatty won't become anorexic....

Your lil fatty is looking better than ever. Little fat mistress' clean up GOOD....

and this is one reason why LE's cost more money. Getting to satin is hard work even with tools.

good job.

I like it the way it already is. I am not a fan of mirror polish. It looks a lot more rugged in satin or beadblasted. Good work mate.

it actually looks a lot like that stone wash finish microtech uses on their blades.

CR, that last pic looks great! I'd stop there and hit it with Scotch Brite. It will take a bit more effort to take down the dimples on the flats. I am using a hard rubber sanding block (saves the fingers) to clean up my Ruck, but it has deep grind lines on the bevels, that I do not have the patience to take out. Pics soon in a new thread.

That Ice Razor is sweet... I wish I had the time to and tools to do that to mine!

Don't stop now Rooster, that FFBM looks like it's coming out nicely!
