All right, I'll let it slide this time. ;)

How does the fatty compare to the CG in terms of cutting and chopping? I never got a chance to try my fat FBM before I traded it.

I had some fun a couple of weeks ago beating up my CGFBM and my FFBM. I found that the FFBM would take a larger bite, however it seemed prome to getting stuck in the wood. The CGFBM took slightly smaller bites and didn't get stuck.

Both are fun though! :D

ColdOne nailed it...

Yeah, the FFBM bites deeper, but swings clumsier and binds in the wood more. It also gives me more feedback and discomfort. This may be due to it not having Mag handles. I favor the CGFBM.

the reason for this is what I explained in the other thread. The CG FBM has a more slightly convexed blade profile that wedges better. This makes it bind less in wood. I have also experienced this. The disadvantage is in the cutting geometry which is much thicker so it wont be a great slicer.

Had to dig this topic back up....

How does the Fat compare to the CG in splitting wood by batoning? This would be VERY valuable info for me. The CG would seem to be better geometry EXCEPT, it seems like you could lose some energy due to the baton deforming when striking the narrow spine (due to the swedge). The Fat is SO chubby but has an outstanding striking surface and better energy transfer(?). Any input would be greatly appreciated

Still looking for some help on splitting with the Fatty...

Haven't used a Fat for batoning, only chopping. My CG splits and batons with ease, however. I'd imagine the thicker blade stock, wedge-shaped flat grind, and lack of bevels would make it a bit more difficult, but that is only an inference.

I'll see if I can look into it later today.

That is sort of what I figure too. The edge geometry of the CG probably outweighs the spine geometry on the Fat for striking. I know one thing... I REALLY chew up batons while splitting with my CG and LE in small part because of the swedge. If you do have a chance to check that out I would appreciate it :)

I bought a rubber mallet for the task, and it has held up well. Wood gets destroyed pretty quickly by the swedge, though.

Dunner, I haven't batoned with mine yet. When I do, I'll get you a report.
