One of my buddies called me up and told me that I HAD to try a grilled cheese sandwich, "BUT," he says, "you've gotta put Corned Beef Hash in there with it." He said that it was his new "fat snack" (we're both like 6'2, 220, and considered "overweight" by the Army - although we both make the body fat standards. They wanted us at like 195. Riiiight. Anyways, I'm out of the Active Army now and in the Guard, he's still in, but we always used to joke about "fat snacks" and "fat pants" and fat whatever, cuz neither one of us look overweight).

So I picked up the supplies the next time I was at the store. I used Sourdough bread, 3 slices of cheese per sandwich, and a generous ammount of Hash. Anyways, the sandwich was REALLY good...! I wasn't expecting it to be such a good combo. So, EVERYONE GO MAKE ONE!!!

Montery Jack & Swiss over sliced onions on buttered sourdough bread -- dipped into a bowl of cream of tomato soup filled with melted cheese
-- is also quite good. I also like tuna salad on a grilled cheese sandwich (although it is rather messy).

Since grilled cheese sandwich isn't really a meal, you need to have at least two with a bowl of soup.

Good suggestions - never done cheese/onions before, I'll have to try it. I do make an open faced tuna melt quite often though - on a sliced in half loaf of French Bread. Stick it in the oven and Broil. I'll have to try grilling one though - sounds good. Sourdough is the ticket, I use it for pretty much all of my sandwiches now! I also did a sliced prime rib on sourdough w/ swiss under the broiler, and topped it with some horseradish/mayo sauce. That was nice as well!

I'm going to get so FAT! I really like Brie.

Now, I'm not usually a Blue Cheese fan, but take some good blue cheese, on a cracker, with a dried apricot - that is a nice snack as well!
I haven't tried this, but a friend also said that a melted Blue and Apricot jelley sandwich is a great snack. Thats on my list of "to try" foods (long list).

One thing I used to do was cook up some Steak-um sliced beef in a skillet (or good roast beef with butter, which is even better), and in another skillet saute some onions, red bell peppers, and mushrooms in butter, adding Worstershire sauce and cooking sherry till everything was the way I liked it. After draining the grease off the meat, I'd transfer it to some 8" sub rolls, cover with a couple slices of Swiss (which would quickly melt), then add a double handful of veggies to each, and douse the whole mess with A-1 Steak Sauce. Everybody loved these things.

A buddy of mine puts dried apricots in Mason jars that he fills with top quality moonshine, and lets it sit for a few months. The "broth" is thick and sweet -- better than the finest brandy. The apricots? I had 2 earlier today on an empty stomach and caught a buzz. VERY strong -- seemed like all the alcohol went into the fruit! He takes Ziplock bags filled with pickled apricots on his fishing trips, and swears that 5 will get you drunk.

Sounds like a winner. I do roasts in the crockpot all the time, so this is something that I'll need to try.

I just did a roast yesterday in the pot, I just browned and then drowned the roast in Merlot and Worstershire, added some salt and pepper and bay leaves, and let it go overnight. I had intended on adding some veggies and potatos, but in the course of celebrating (it was my birthday) I drank 2 bottles of wine myself before I started the roast... you should have seen me attempting to help the wife with dishes after that! LOL. Anyways, the roast turned out great.

Back in my fraternity days we used to take a (new) garbage can, fill it with sliced apples/oranges/watermellon/etc, and everyone brought a bottle of clear liquor, and we'd sometimes add some juice... called it "Hairy Buffalo," I think its a pretty common name for it... The FRUIT was what buzzed you up, even more than the juice!

Egad. That was a part of my brain I thought I had killed off for good... :p  Fuzzy Memories...

JUNGLE JUICE (hunch punch) amazing..******
hawaiian punch with a with vodka and watermelon in there 3-1 mix of punch to vodka

SKIPPIES hawaiian punch with vodka and beer ...sounds nasty but it accomplishes the same thing as the jungle juice

both of them are good for making bad decisions and waking up next to chicks you thought were better looking the night before

but back to the sandwiches: george foreman grill is amazing for grilled sanwiches and such..porkroll on a potato roll with american cheese and mayo

Brie and salami on a french roll or baguette that has been heated so that the cheese is melted and the salami hot. Yum

No wonder I'm fat, but I used to fry up some monster omelettes back in the day. Too much olive oil, I'd probably be dead if I used lard or any other kind of cooking oil. Anyway, they were good, but disgusting. One small Vidalia onion, one can tuna fish, one green pepper, one box of fresh mushrooms, about a half bottle of salsa, half bag of potato chips usually sour cream and onion, three slices of cheese and about five eggs. Sad to say, but sometimes I could finish it in one sitting, with about four pieces of whole grain bread. This was right after high school. At first, I was just overweight, and would go for a five mile walk sometime after my morning, ahem, light reading. Then, as I slacked off excercise wise, the amount of food consumed lessened dramatically. Now, I can't even think about the taste of tuna fish or potato chips in my eggs, I remember I really liked it, but damn, it sure is disgusting.

My favorite comfort food is kielbasa. Sliced you rickies! Sliced Polish kielbasa, with a little bit of sauerkraut for flavor, on either sourdough rye or whole grain bread, and some Woeblers horseradish sauce. I brushed about five times after eating that once, my gums were almost bleeding, but when I belched, I almost passed out from the smell. Good eatin' but damn, lay off the sauerkraut too.

Hmm... I eat corned beef hash with eggs for breakfast at least a couple of times a week. It never would have occurred to me to add it to a grilled cheese sandwich though. I think I'll try one for lunch today!

A new cheese that I discovered recently is something called Parrano. It's like a cross between Gouda and Parmesan cheese. It melts really well, so it works good in a grilled cheese sandwich, but it's also great on top of meats like pastrami or salami on some French bread.

Not quite in the same class, but my two favorites are peanut butter/mayo/banana sandwiches and peanut butter and onion sandwiches.

another good sandwich is cream cheese and sliced cucumber. Can be messy, cucumber slices always fly out.

peanut butter and onion sandwiches.

A brother of mine used to eat peanut butter, onion, and bacon sandwiches. Back when I was 175#, I used to eat liverwurst and peanut butter sandwiches.

One of my favorite sandwiches is hummus, avocado, sprouts, and Thousand Island dressing . . . one of the reasons why I'm now 135#.

If I want something fattening, I'll order a rare 1/2# cheeseburger or a Carolina-style pork BBQ sandwich.
