Spiral, is that silver work on the handles and if so what is the dark material?
Beautiful kukris and indeed appear as if they could be father and son models.;)

Thanks Ted!

Yvsa its dark steel with silver overlay to enhance the silver floral work.

There usualy sold by dealers as a silver grip.... To me It looks like the steel was chemicaly blackend or blued. If the silvers totaly worn off there sold as Steel grip kukris! Either way they are well made Pieces.

The workmanship is so similar that I think they came from the same kami, despite all the copying & plagerism of work common in the kukri trade throughout the 20th century.

The large one came out of Egypt {bought in a bazzar, & had probably been taken from a fallen Gurkha in WW1 or even 2 perhaps. Intrigingly it had a Naga arrowhead from assam in the pouch. Lots of Gurkha units & indeed other Burma based units such as Assam rifles & Burmese military police units served in Egypt in WW1 & had previosly fought the Naga. {As many Gorka units still do on occasions today.} The Arabs & Turks love a captured kukri. Guess they know a good weapon when they see it.

But I guess the the real proven truth of its history will never be known.

Thanks Spiral.  :D
What do you mean by Naga arrowhead? Was it an old arrowhead from days gone by, Stone Age, or a more modern one?
I assume Assam is a district or area of Nepal?

I guess it must be an arrowhead style that is specifically common in Nagaland.

Nagaland is a vibrant hill state Located in the extreme North Eastern End of India, bounded by Myanmar in the East; Assam in the West; Arunachal Pradesh and a part of Assam in the North with Manipur in the south.

Indeed so! Its a barbed metal arrowhead of the type used by the Naga in Assam which has been both North East India & Indeed perhaps Burma at different times in History I think? Depending on which British Governor was running Bengal or Burma provinces for king & country...

The Naga were headhunters & they still fight the Gorkhas in the Indian army to try & get there own state as they fought the British before India got home rule. ~I think its a war thats been going on for about 150 years....

I guess the arrow is early 20th century, but could be older.

The handles are just a little more ornate than I would like, but the blade of the larger one is very attractive.

Thanks Steve!

Ahh yes but the true inner beuty of these is the textured grip they offer under the disguise of decoration. ;)

Yvsa,

Heres the arrow head!

Thanks again Spiral!  :D
That's an interesting arrowhead in that it looks like the type that was inserted into the arrow shaft rather than having the arrow shaft inserted into a socket in the arrowhead.
Are bows and arrows still used by some of the folk way back in the hills or has firearms become the standard these days. There's a lot to be said for using a bow as it is very stealthy.;)

Its Probably inserted into a very thin or whitled bamboo shaft I would think Yvsa?

I think bows & arrows still exist for the odd food in the pot scenario in the backwoods, hills & jungles of Assam , BUT when things are rough & dangerous I think its the ever common, worlwide, shotguns, AK47, M.16, FAL, G3 ETC. & of course grenades & home made pressure cooker bombs that come that out to play. Sadley like most place evrywhere else I dont think the young warriers of today do stealthy. To much satelite telivision & VCRs I reckon.:D
