A few months ago I found that a custom knife outfit in San Antonio TX does workshops in knife forging. Several formats are offered, but one was a one day mini session where you pound out half a horseshoe into a little knife. Cost was a manageable $250. So I set up a mini session for our adult son to do with his boy (our grandson, age 13) as a Father's Day gift to both of them.

They did it yesterday and had a blast! Fther and Son were able to share in the work with their bladeamster helping with some of the bevel grinding. Turned out that they were the only scheduled group that day and the guy in charge gsve them a chunk of spring steel to work on. The result is a 6' blade with a stsg handle. I can't wait for a picture or two.

I have gotten an image as an e-mail attachment. It looks like a nice first try at knife making. The image is now stored in"Photos" on my Windows-new-whatever-system computer. I am having difficulty doing a copy/paste to get it onto this forum . . . or anywhere else on my own computer. Five years ago this sort of thing was a snap for me, but they keep improving everything.
