OK, I need help getting a knife for my dad. Price range is around $50. He loves the leek, so something with a similar profile, he also likes the assist. He's a mechanic, so something with a thicker tip would be nice, but not necessary. Steel is not a major concern. Thanks for the help in advanced.

Im going to say piston or knockout myself or for 55 go with a junkyard dog composite blade blem from kershawguy. I bet he would really like a composite blade its not speedsake but is very smooth flipper

I'm buying my dad a JYD blem for fathers day but its a lot bigger than a leek.

The Kershaw FUNXION EMT is pretty amazing for the amount of functionality and low price ($35 +/- $5).

I'd say Knockout, I love mine personally. Obviously, the knife is a lot bigger than a leek, but carries extremely well. I'd also consider a Skyline, although it's not assisted. I actually just picked up a Blackout for my dad.

I've been carrying a Gerber Paraframe for the last 5 years...locks up solid and have not been able to knock it closed by hitting the backside of the blade on the work bench...holds an edge very well and can be had for a lot less than $50. I would recommend grinding the thumbstud down, it is a little too long for me.

If you are looking for a smaller size like the leek give the cryo a shot its so impressive

Have you tried Speedform II with the great Elmax blade (3.25") and one of the best 3D machine contoured G-10 handle scales I've handled and looked at? It weights in at 3.2 ounces.

Blur. Speedsafe, Lightweight, Thicker Tip, and just as addicting as a leek.

Or...another Leek, maybe engraved as mentioned, or with a logo/pic like (snap on), or just a favorite color or something.

I find the best gifts are given with meaning, and helps to tell someone what your meaning was when giving it to them.
