theres a small pine 3 inches or so in diameter on the property. my grandpa is thinking of cutting it down because it blocks the view. if theres a little stump left will it make fat wood? and if so how long will it take? thanks.

My gut tells me that no. The best fatwood I've always found came from the larger trees.

For something that small better mark the spot well. The top will rot away and and the fatwood will likely only happen in the root system under ground. The taller you leave the stump the better chance of getting fatwood and it will take 2 or 3 years to get anything like fatwood...the longer you wait the more potent what you get will be.

I got a bunch from an old Christmas tree farm but the best was in the roots of the stumps.--KV
