Decieded to make up some fatwood matches this morning, so I gathered up some supplies and got to it!

Making the matches was a little time consuming using my Swisstool's saw, but it allowed me to save the dust.

Here are my matches...

Time to give one a try :)

Strike one :grumpy: There was a little steady wind, and the cotton burned up without igniting the fatwood. So I added the dust to the cotton, and went for strike two!

Sucess! With the fatwood dust in the cotton, the wind never had a chance. I held the second one like a match until the fatwood was burning. The matches lit with a single strike each time. What a great idea, and thanks again to WSS members for all the head-ups on cool and useful info:thumbup:

I don't think I saw it in your post--what did you use to make it strike? I didn't think that phosphorous was available for the average fellow, but maybe I'm wrong?

Used a Light My Fire firesteel. Place the 'match' right in front of the striker (facing away from you)and strike on the firesteel. Even a poor strike lit on the first try.
