Last week I posted this thread.

Today I revisited and pulled a little of the fatwood using strictly hand tools (axe, prybar, maul & saw). I was working on the portion of the tree on the ground shown in this photo in last thread.

I pried a little off the top exposed portion of the tree using the maul and pry bar. I then sawed through the remaining portion on the ground in two places , cutting off about 2.5-3 feet in length in total. The resulting haul follows:

I am estimating what I pulled today was 45-50 lbs of wood and it is not even 1/10 of what is probably there between the portion on the ground and the standing portion shown in other thread.

let the fire starting begin. great find man! looks like you just found a lifetime supply of resiny goodness.

GREAT FIND. There is fat wood all over the place up here. It's nice to have in a tinder kit when needed and it looks as though you will have enough to light up half your state when you're done!!!! ;)

i love pictures like that.

now light a big fire.............and stand back......:D:D:D

What do you need that much fatwood for? I always see guys posting threads where they haul out a bunch, or find a bunch. I know it makes a good firestarter, but 50lbs? Seems to me a better place to store it is where it lies. Just my opinion, not puttin ya down or anything. Just wondering if im missing something. Besides fatwood in my state. lol

My 2 cents
Ive yet to meet a fatwood harvester that doesnt share the find
and educate the friends with a nice chunk of free tinder.
Want more well.... now that your hooked you gotta pay lol
No only funning on the last part fatwood gatherers are a generous bunch
