just harvested my first bit of fatwood  to my surprise.
had plans to chop and dig out a old stump(18 inches across) in my yard for a while now, well i got it done a few days ago and to my surprise it was a pine of somesort. Anyways getting lots of fatwood out of it not much straight grain but it is what it is and it is burning.

the question is does fatwood dry out so to speak if not kept sealed?

thanks
ian

It will lose it's punguent odor after a while but just a couple slices off the outside will bring the odor back. I dont think it loses its flammability for a long, long time if at all.--KV

Just gets better with age- like cheese. Once it drys a little it is easier to handle as the resin doesn't get on everything and then when you are ready, just slice on it- Whala- waxy, resinous fire stick!
