Looking at getting water filter for the kitchen sink faucet, because the Fridge filters are too expensive/hard to find...

Can someone recommend a good one for me?

I have used a Pur filter I got at COSTCO for years. No problems. Always wanted to send in H20 for a test but am too cheap.

Personally, I get 5 gallon bottles refilled at a "water station". At 60 cents a gallon, why mess with the filters? I should note that this water is mineral free, truly filtered, etc. so it isn't bottled tap water. ;)

10 gallons of water is a lot of drinking water, coffee, and tea!

Even if you buy water from a spring that you know is tested regularly, it isn't tested every day. It's more like every six months, or every three months if you're lucky. So if some dioxins or something leaches into that spring, you could be drinking it for quite a while before anybody knows.

Maybe that sounds paranoid, but when I filter my water myself I know it's pretty safe, not just six months ago, now.

By the way it costs me a lot less than 60 cents a gallon, and I don't have to drive anywhere to get it.

I don't use a faucet filter but they're better than they used to be, might be good enough if your tap water isn't bad to start with.

I use a Pur dispenser. The cartridges cost more than Britta or Culligan but they last much longer and remove more contaminants.

Try these if ya ever want to change. http://www.bigberkey.com/ i have a water bottle from them with a built in filter i will drink lake water and it tastes great, clean and well i havent died so it must do something.:D:D just fyi

I use a Sears Kenmore side of the sink model that is a n easy kitchen faucet hookup. Works fine past few years, noticable improvement for our water.

Nothing like a slug of Giardia lamblia to give you the fear of farting for a few days... I've got a Berkey, but love the portable for tucking away in my hiking bag, just in case.

I have a seagull IV and it works real good - Cost $ - Has high output. Also, you only have to change the filter once a year. MD
