pocket knife. Comes to mind from my other related post.

I like a Delrin handle for these types of knives most of all. Feels comfortable in the hand and in the pocket. Virtually unbreakable and can look nice, too!

Deer stag would be my second choice for a handle material. Reason it's second, looks real nice but sometimes not comfortable when gripping, depending on the stag.

I have bone handle knives, too, but don't care for them. They look real nice and pretty, but they do chip fairly easy and tend to crack at the pins when they start to get a little aged.

Wood handles are also fine, but the looks don't appeal to me.

Composition handles? Sort of like celluloid I think, again, they look pretty but warpage can occur over time from the heat of being carried in the pocket.

These are my likes and dislikes based on my own personal experiences over the years.

What about you all? What are your favorite handle materials on the ole traditional pocket knives, and why? Curious mind wants to know

I also recall from the last similiar thread that this was mentioned to be refreshing to see a topic regarding the good ole fashion knife!

P.S. Manuafactures, what handle materials do you find are the most popular in your knives?

Abalone, pearl, stag and bone jigged or smooth for natural handle materials on traditional folders.I'll pass on the Delrin.

STAG (I'm a sucker for Stag, put a stag handle on a POS, and I'll take a look, I won't buy but I will look) Ivory, Pearl, Abalone, Horn ( some beautiful colors on Buffalo) Wood, Turquoise and bone jigged or smooth for natural handle materials on traditional folders. I'll pass on the Delrin (ditto for Stagalon) or any other make believe Stag.

(Oh, and I'll pass on that OLe Fashion, I will have another Rusty Nail though!)

I should have said Delrin, the sawcut look. The imitation stag handles (Stagalon), no, I don't care for them as collectors pieces, but for a working knife, yes. Much more durable and a smoother feel than stag. But, for a natural material, yes, stag I would take over all others. Horn would be a real good choice!

I second the saw-cut Delrin as my favorite, as least in a Barlow. Am looking to get one now to replace a long lost one. Camillus and Ka-Bar both make new ones. The Ka-Bar (KA-1013)is carbon steel which I prefer. Anyone know what the Camillus (CM551) steel is? Any one have one in good condition for sale? Any one know what dealer might carry one? Thanks.

Case came out with natural bone on a run of knives this year.I like it.Actually bone is my favorite.Green or red jigged bone. But I also like imitation tortoise shell like on the Camillus limited Edition run last year. For a carrier I like yellow composition.

Christmas Tree celluloid. I just like the way it looks.

I also like the saw cut delrin in the Schrade Old Timers and the Buck 300 series. On weekends I like to carry a Case red bone pocket worn stockman,I think the delrin holds up much better, but the stag and picked bone sure look a lot nicer.

Stag. Can't afford abalone.....but it looks good. Doubtfull durability, though.
Don't mind Delrin on a hard worker.

Hey, Jim......I like Celluloid, too....but I read that it gives off fumes which damage other knives. Can't remember how, though. But I keep mine separated, anyway.
But, really, is there anything Celluloid does that can't be done by a more modern material ?
