Ladies and Gents,

I have a favor to ask, but it's one of those favors that benefits you as much as I.

I have no idea why it has taken me so long to join Knife Rights. It's $32 a year for an annual membership, and I guess I kept telling myself that since I'd been a member of the AKTI some time back, that I would eventually renew with AKTI.

Well, Knife Rights puts its money where its mouth is time and again. Check out what they've done for us as knife enthusiasts and collectors in regard to fighting and overcoming restrictive (read oppressive) legislation in the past few years ( www.kniferights.org ). The battle against U.S. Customs, the revision of the Switchblade Act to protect non-automatic one-hand openers, and the current battles in the Northeast with restrictive legislation in the pipeline. Knife Rights tells you what's going on and where, and what you can do to help.

Just today I read a post from Doug Ritter with Knife Rights in the Knife Laws sub forum where he is attempting to assist someone who ran aground in NYC with their ridiculous knife laws recently. I met Doug some years back at the Blade Show when Knife Rights was a brand new organization, and I knew right away that he was passionate about protecting our hobby.

Doug's post was the inspiration I needed to get off my arse and join, so I joined today.

At any rate, I know times are tight, and $32 is $32. However, I look at it as paying for itself every day I can continue carrying my Seb in my state and others when I travel. Sorta the same as being a gun enthusiast, having a collection of fine firearms, and naturally being an NRA member. Other than the $32 to join, I can't think of a reason not to join, other than the same procrastination that held me back until this point.

It would be fantastic if every BFC member would join. Talk about a grass roots org taking off! But, short of that becoming reality, what if us CRK subforumites took the initiative to join? Might be the start of something?

Thanks for your consideration. This is not really my style, openly advocating an initiative like this, but something really clicked with me on this one.

Here, Here! I couldn't agree with you more! Next to the NRA, Kniferights.org is just as important if not even MORE so important to maintaining the rights we enjoy everyday! I would sugest to the folks at kniferights maybe the addition of a monthly publication simular to the NRA would help with membership? I know that I would be lost without my American Rifleman, that I look forward to recieving every month! I know that I feel the same about Blade magizine, and most likely would too with a kniferights monthly magizine!
Thanks,
Chris

I think I will Join right now. I am hearing of more and more restrictions around the country. We need someone to represent us.
OT-Doug Ritter is an extremely nice guy

Thanks, guys. I was afraid my post had fallen on deaf ears. I love using and carrying my knives, and I'm not sure what I'd do if one day I woke up and couldn't anymore. What's worse, to not have tried to fight it...

Doug asked me to be a corporate sponsor last year- I didn't hesitate and will re up when I see him in New Jersey at the show next month.

A great organization- worthwhile to support if you are into this game and don't let the others carry all the weight.

Take care, Neil

I joined today as well Professor. just wanted you to know it didn't fall on deaf ears.
Cheers!

Many thanks, Neil and Russel. I wish I knew how to take it to the masses!
