Favorite 5-7" Busse (blade)??

I want to purchase a Busse with a blade in the 5-7 inch range to use heavily in the field. I realize there are quite a few blades that fit this description but I won't have the opportunity to handle many (or any - I live in Houston) before making a purchase. --- And I'd like to have an informed decision.

Can anyone give me some insight on this?
What's your favorite? Why? What do you find is the best length?

I'm sure the answers I get will vary greatly, but I appreciate the input anyone can give me. Tyrkon Lawson is currently doing a great job of selling the BATAC...

Thanks ya'll!

any badger or outlaw will make you happy. the badgers are all sub 5" blades though. the batac might be closer to five, i dont have mine yet.

steel heart, hell razor, on the larger end.

Hell Razor is interesting option - because prices of them are not that high especially in comparsion with SFNO. I like my Hell Razor a lot - very sturdy knife. large enough to do some chopping and light enough to be carried in the field.

I think the choice is simple.
Wait for the SH1-A to be released and buy as many as you can.

any badger

Do not under any circumstances look for a SHBA.
You will only drive yourself crazy (just like me).

Not all of them but I'm working on it. :D
Maybe one day the one you have can join it's brothers here in Maine.

Now back to the question at hand.
If you can't wait for the SH1-A.
The Company store should be getting BATAC's soon.

Good idea on the SH1-A - should be about perfect. I'm also a big fan of the BATAC, and they should be at the BCS before too long.

And the SHBA? Spoken like a true Hog - always lead them away..........;)

Mulder,

What's the ETA for the SH1-A ????

Man I want one of those!!!!

The original ETA was for June 07 and Blade.
They have been pushed back a few months while the shop catches up on orders.
My best guess would be a few months minimum but before year end.

The SH1-A is a good call:thumbup:

But if you need/want the knife fast you can get a BATAC pretty much any time on the exchange and the pricing isn't bad these days.

I say get your favorite BATAC now so you'll have something to cut with while waiting for your SH-1!

It's...the perfect solution!!:D

I really like the NO-E and of course the BATAC! Great knives. Not too big (if there is such a thing) and not to small.

It's a matter of what you want when.

Oh, and how much money you have........

If you just gotta have something NOW, then it'll cost you. A cheaper possibility might be to visit www.swamprat.com and see what they have at their Company Store. They had an M-6 available a short while ago today, along with a Ratmandu. Of the two, the M-6 seems to fill your stated need better.

If you insist on a Busse (who can blame you!) and still gotta have it now, then within that size range, the BATAC is right at 5" and fairly cheap (in comparison) because it was just released.

On the 7" side, the aforementioned Hell Razor is a dandy knife. I sure like mine. A 6" Satin Jack is a good choice also, but harder to find and more expensive when you do. (This is mainly due to how long ago they were available)

Going slightly larger, expect to pay $500 or so for a Steel Heart, but that's 8", which may exceed your self imposed size limit.

BUT......if you don't gotta have it now and want to be able to order it "your way," then the SH-1 Anniversary with an anticipated 6.5" blade might suit you perfectly. Problem is, we really don't know when it'll be available.

I really like the Straight Handle Satin Jacks in 1/4". It Chops, it slices, it dices, it even helps you sleep at night!

The SH-1A sounds and looks like the perfect knife for me... I wish I could get one now...

I just might jump on the BATAC bandwagon, it looks like a hell of a knife. I like the looks of the Nat Outlaw (non-Ergo) too but they seem hard to come by.

That is the second best knife.

I wonder why he won't tell you about the BA-III

That is because he is HOGGING them ALL.
