I wanted to check out what everyone's favorite aerial is. Please leave a brief description. In your description explain what you like about the particular aerial.

Thanks,

I like just a basic straight toss and catch, but I like to get about five or so rotations, I've never counted them, just lots of air time. Folks seem to be impressed with that.

I also like a toss that begins with the knife closed. You give it a little english as you toss it and it turns and opens the air. Very impressive.

Since meeting Fred Perrin, I've been working on these sort of twisting aerial snaps that he does. I haven't seen 'em in any of the books or videos, so I want to get 'em down.

Balisongs -- because it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing!

I think my favorite goes like this. From a forward grip, I swing the latch handle around and down like I am going to switch to a back hand grip, but instead of ricocheting the handle back to catch it, I let go and flip the knife around in a full rotation and catch it in a forward grip again. I think that explains it.

I'd like to hear more about those aerial snap o/c Chuck.!!!

I think my favorite aerial,I learned from Clay only I do it alittle different. In one of his clips (cannot remember which one) he goes from a sabre grip, holds the latch handle and tosses into an ice pick openning. Once I got it down, I switched to holding the safe handle. More danger in the catch, but I have more defensive options afterwards.

Also like that "under hand toss and catch" that Imada does but have alot of trouble being fluent with it.

mine would have to be a standard throw after coming out of a finger roll. that or rolling it over my left index finger then throwing it up in the air.

Dang, i dunno probably the thumb roll to finger roll to table top to plain-old-regular aerial icepick. I'm waiting for Clays input on this subject..i cant wait!

Well, my favorite lately would be this Double Balisong static throw juggleing thing I do.

~ Start with a closed Bali in each hand.

~ Right hand static throws over to left.

~ At the same time as the above step happens, left passes the closed balisong, under the throw, to the right hand.

~ left hand catches open and quickly Windmill closes while at the same time right hand Windmill opens.

~ As righ hand Windmill closes, left hand static throws to right , while right hand pass under to left........ and the cycle repeats back and fourth.

It's a great coordination builder and helps you learn to spread your focus out to see the whole picture as opposed to one little piece.

AND it's a great timing workout as well. Because if you're not smooth and right on with your "throw and pass" execution, you're DONE!
