My first stockman was a Schrade, and very well-made. However, my favorite brands of stockman now include the following:
Camillus (#67)
Buck (#703)
Case (red bone Pocketworn)

I prefer one with bolsters that are round or slightly rounded for comfort and less wear on pockets.

The Buck 703 is extremely sharp and solid, also the blades are hollow-ground. Each blade has a separate backspring so no bending of blades.

The Camillus #67 has a very old-style look and feel, and also is very solid. It has Delrin handles, which I prefer over real bone or stag on a using knife, for ruggedness.

The Case Pocketworn is very nice-looking and worked very well as a cutter, but I keep it in the box due to its beauty and the inherent fragility of the bone handles. (sometimes a using knife gets dropped).

I've got a Case XX 1978 (two-dot) large stockman for sale over in the Exchange forum. Rounded bolsters. Not mint - light carry but never sharpened. They're great knives, but I'm looking for something smaller for everyday carry.
Lately I've been toting my Schrade Uncle Henry Premium Stock (897UH). I've been looking around to replace it as I'd like to have stag, bone or at least wood handles. But I have to tell you, this Uncle Henry is a heck of a good performer. Comfortable in the hand, takes a mean edge and holds it. I'm still looking to upgrade (just because, well, that's what we knife nuts do - it's our job!), but I'll be taking my time, knowing that Uncle Henry is up to any job.

My father prefers Schrade but for a traditional knife I'm a fan of Camillus. Can't say that I like the Stockman design much though. I'm more of a Jack Knife or Trapper kind of person.

Cannot say enough good about the Schrade OT and the Camillus, my fav. Saw a browning that looked really nice with 440C blades.

I recommend Queen's knives, especially their Queen Winterbottom bone, Robeson, and Schatt & Morgan lines. Queen's stockmans have rounded bolsters and, in the lines just mentioned, bone handles, ATS-34 blades, and close to custom quality fit and finish. Queen's high-end knives offer unbeatable value for the money, IMHO. Queen also offers "popular priced" stockmans in their "Chipped Bark" and "Amber" lines. These low-end knives are good knives but their prices are a bit higher than their competitors so they do not offer the same relative value that Queen's high-end knives do. That said, again IMHO, Queen's knives more than compensate for the extra money (and, sometimes, effort) that it takes to buy them.

I have two Primbles that I bought on Ebay. Both are mint and I like the overall shape. The older one has a match striker pull and angled bolsters.
Of about 20 Stockmans I have, these are my two favorites!!

My favorite is the Eye Brand stockman. Forged carbon steel blades, long pull master blade, and comes with a really good edge profile, nice and thin for cutting performance. I also like my Kissing Crane stockman a lot. I like carbon steel, so I had to get the small (63032) and large (6375) Case models, the 6375 is a good knife, but I had to reprofile the edges on the 63032 so that it would cut decently.

I have an old Hammer I bought off Ebay which is quite nice. I also have a Bulldog on order, carbon steel and stag, but available with all types of handle, I'll review when I get it

For a stockman pattern - Schrade or Case is the brand I'll grab for everytime. Nothing fancy but the keep on working. I like mine in that mid size range -about 3" closed. Couple of Cases include redbone from about 40 years ago, stag from the 60's, and a chestnut bone that was my Dad's.. a bit bigger than the other two ... the older buck series 300's were pretty fair as well.

I picked up a really nice large stag handled Hen and Rooster stockman at a small hobby/pawn shop in Nashville last spring, and it is a beaut. Forged carbon steel blades, perfectly matched stag slabs, nickel silver bolsters(not rounded though), and I paid the guy $60 for it. Pretty sure its a fairly old one(70s) but not old enough to be one of the really expensive ones AG Russell sells for several hundred dollars. I also grabbed a mint condition older(70s) Eye brand with jig bone and carbon blades, also rounded bolsters. This one is so nice, and in such pristine condition, I havent gotten the nerve to use it yet. That one cost me $80 at the October Tulsa gun and knife show.

I have quite a few of Case's stockmans, of which are my favorite multi-blade patterns. I really like their 18 pattern medium stockman with the rounded bolsters. Nice size for daily carry and is easy to carry in the pocket. The large pattern (IIRC a 47) I like too but it is a bit uncomfortable to carry around due to the size and weight. The 33 pattern is great for carrying in that little change pocket of blue jeans. I also have a Camillus #7 medium stockman with brass bolsters and stained hardwood handles that I like a lot as well. It's a nice looking knife with the brass bolsters accenting the wood.

Of all the multi-blade patterns out there, I have found the stockmans to be most useful with their three blade styles.
