I have tried a lot of knives out there, and wish I could have kept the all. Most are gone now, mainly causemy taste has changed so much. I have had a lot of busse combat, horton's, JK blades, Nick All from NWA(wished those 3 knives we still here), koster, SDS, Gossman, Brian Andrews, Mark Wohlwend, and a few others.

I went from liking huge monster choppers to thin 4 inch slicers. The one on the way from Mark should hit the spot. The blind horse is very comfortable, but a bit thick at 3 1/16.

So what's your ideal or favorite knife and why?

I'm lucky enough to have gotten to own and play with all these. Let everyone live through you now.

I don't have a single one but the ones I always come back to are the Cold Steel Master Hunter (Carbon V), Swamp Rat Vex and the Scrap Yard Scrapper 5.
I have other knives in this size range (Busse SAR-4 for example, Cold Steel SRK and others) but those three are best for me. Every time I see a Spyderco Temperance I am very tempted though. :D

Probably my favourite.

Here are mine. Another Fiddleback will join them in a few days...

I think its normal to change your tastes over time. I also went through a big chopper phase and just couldn`t get it to work for me. My preference is a 4 - 5 inch blade, spearpoint and relatively low blade height (1 inch from edge to spine). However, I will often also throw in a mid-size blade in the pack on multi-day trips along with a take down buck saw. I like smaller knives, 3-3.5 inches for daywalks and messing with wood at home.

I like big choppers. I prefer them as I like to chop and baton stuff for enjoyment when I am out in the woods. I have fun doing it, therefore they are my favorite. As for smaller tasks, an ESEE4 or a mora will do me just fine. Perhaps even an Opinel.

Here are a couple of mine....The first is a Busse BAD, and it is my favorite....The second is my newest knife, Busse Boss Jack.....Its just the right size to cut with and you can chop and split wood with it.....They both have been striped of there coating and convex....

I have so many knives it's ridiculous, but I grab my JK Phoenix or my Brian Andrews scandi most of the time, since they reside in packs ready to go. I switch them out with several others: Fiddlebacks and other customs. I like scandis and have more of them than any other style.

My ideal knife has a 4.5-6" blade, no choil and short ricasso area, with a minimum 4.5" long handle that is taller than it is wider. I like to know how the knife is sitting in my hand by feel and not by sight. A very slight hand guard/quillion up front, slightly shaped slabs and a pommel that flares in width and drops slightly. The longer the handle, the better.

Hard to decide on a favorite. Some knives are better than others at specific tasks. These are the ones that I am currently using though.

It's good to hear ya still using that Phoenix, I liked the design when you did it and to still be using it regularly says a lot about the knife !;)

Thanks brother, it took a lot of sharpening to get it where I like it, but the handle is very comfy and NoaHL made a great sheath for it.

Well I am in the big knife phase.Always have been always will. I prefer a knife from 7 1/2 to 9 1/2 inches. I use almost all customs from Bruce Culberson,Scott Gossman,Jeremy Horton,Trace Rinaldi and Bill Siegle. I find I can do everything with a big knife that I can with a small knife. I live in the big woods and the Native Americans that were here first always wanted to trade for 10 inch bladed knives.I think they knew what they were doing.I do also always have a leatherman and a lockblade with me.

i got one of the phoenix too and its a great bushcrafter. the handles are great. and i love the blade style too. it's one of my go to bush blades for sure. i also love my scrapper 5, war dog, koster bushcrafter, blind horse bushcrafter lol, the list goes on and on lol.

I have a few to choose from but for the time being my JK Kephart's are number one. I prefer a spearpoint over the traditional bushcraft blades that are in style now.

I also like my Jeff White Kephart and Ontario SK5 Blackbird. Soon to be joined by a JK Scout Jr.

A true kephart is something I still haven't tried but want to. One from ML is in my future somewhere.

I suppose my favorite knife is the simple Mora Clipper. I'm looking for a new bushcraft knife, however. Currently carrying a Liten Bror from Bark River, and while it does a lot of things right, I find I still prefer the Clipper... and for less than 1/10th of the price, that's saying something!

My perfect bushcraft blade would be like this:

-3.5"-5" blade
-Scandi grind
-Drop point
-1/8" thick
-Substantial tang
-THICK wooden handle; I like my hands to be filled right up.
-Leather sheath

So basically a standard Scandinavian knife, but with a thicker tang. I also dislike spear points that tend to be common on bushcraft knives.

I honestly think that if I were to design a knife it would be exactly like Les Stroud's Temagami knife. While on the topic... if anyone happens to have one of those (or a knife I might like based on my post here!) and is interested in trading for my Liten Bror... there's a thread over in the trading forum ;)
