I’m not a big drinker, never have been. I can go six months or more without having a beer or a drink except for a small glass of wine. I started a new job a couple of months ago and just about everyone goes out after work Friday night for some drinks. Most everyone is in their 20’s or 30’s, I’m kind of the senior citizen of the group, but I’ve always felt to be just one of the group and not like anyone's chaperone. The usual place we go the deal is 5 shots for $10, that’s pretty cheap in my book and there’s some serious drinking done.

I’m not trying to promote drinking in any way shape or form, I know that’s it’s ruined lives. But, people are going to drink.

I was thinking about putting together a compilation/mix of the Best Drinking Songs.

I’ve put together about 20 of mine, but I was wondering What’s Your Favorite Drinking Song(s)?

AC/DC, Have a drink on me

Whiskey, gin and brandy
With a glass I'm pretty handy
I'm trying to walk a straight line
On sour mash and cheap wine
So join me for a drink boys
We're gonna make a big noise
So don't worry about tomorrow
Take it today
Forget about the tip
We'll get hell to pay
Have a drink on me
Have a drink on me
Yeah
Have a drink on me
Have a drink on me
On me
Come on
Dizzy, drunk and fightin'
On tequila white lightnin'
My glass is getting shorter
On whiskey, ice and water
So come on and have a good time
And get blinded out of your mind
So don't worry about tomorrow
Take it today
Forget about the cheque
We'll get hell to pay
Have a drink on me
Have a drink on me
Have a drink on me
Have a drink on me
On me
Get stoned
Have a drink on me
Have a drink on me
Yeah
Have a drink on me
Come on
Oooh
Gonna roll around
Gonna hit the ground
Take another swing
Have another drink
Gonna drink it dry
Gonna get me high
Come on all the boys
Make a noise
CHORUS
Have a drink on me
Have a drink on me
Have a drink on me
Have a drink on me
Have a drink on me
Have a drink on me
Have a drink on me
Have a drink on me
Have a drink oooooooon me

Here's one my Uncle likes:
George Thorogood And The Destroyers
One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer lyrics

Wanna tell you a story,
about the house-man blues
I come home one Friday,
had to tell the landlady I'd-a lost my job
She said that don't confront me,
long as I get my money next Friday
Now next Friday come I didn't get the rent,
and out the door I went

So I goes to the landlady,
I said, "You let me slide?"
I'll have the rent for you tomorrow.
the next day I don't know
So said let me slide it on you know people,
I notice when I come home in the evening
She ain't got nothing nice to say to me,
but for five year she was so nice
Loh' she was lovy-dovy,
I come home one particular evening
The landlady said, "You got the rent money yet?",
I said, "No, can't find no job"
Therefore I ain't got no money to pay the rent
She said "I don't believe you're tryin' to find no job"
Said "I seen you today you was standin' on a corner,
leaning up against a post"
I said "But I'm tired, I've been walkin' all day"
She said "That don't confront me,
long as I get my money next Friday"
Now next Friday come I didn't have the rent,
and out the door I went

So I go down the streets,
down to my good friend's house
I said "Look man I'm outdoors you know,
can I stay with you maybe a couple days?"
He said "Uh, Let me go and ask my wife"
He come out of the house,
I could see in his face
I know that was no
He said "I don't know man, ah she kinda funny, you know"
I said "I know, everybody funny, now you funny too"
So I go back home
I tell the landlady I got a job, I'm gonna pay the rent
She said "Yeah?" I said "Oh yeah"
And then she was so nice,
loh' she was lovy-dovy
So I go in my room, pack up my things and I go,
I slip on out the back door and down the streets I go
She a-hollerin' about the front rent, she'll be lucky to get any back rent,
she ain't gonna get none of it
So I stop in the local bar you know people,
I go to the bar, I ring my coat, I call the bartender
Said "Look man, come down here", he got down there
So what you want?

One bourbon, one scotch, one beer
Well I ain't seen my baby since I don't know when,
I've been drinking bourbon, whiskey, scotch and gin
Gonna get high man I'm gonna get loose,
need me a triple shot of that juice
Gonna get drunk don't you have no fear
I want one bourbon, one scotch and one beer
One bourbon, one scotch, one beer

But I'm sitting now at the bar,
I'm getting drunk, I'm feelin' mellow
I'm drinkin' bourbon, I'm drinkin' scotch, I'm drinkin' beer
Looked down the bar, here come the bartender
I said "Look man, come down here"
So what you want?

One bourbon, one scotch, one beer
No I ain't seen my baby since the night before last,
gotta get a drink man I'm gonna get gassed
Gonna get high man I ain't had enough,
need me a triple shot of that stuff
Gonna get drunk won't you listen right here,
I want one bourbon, one shot and one beer
One bourbon, one scotch, one beer

Now by this time I'm plenty high,
you know when your mouth a-getting dry you're plenty high
Looked down the bar I say to my bartender
I said "Look man, come down here", he got down there
So what you want this time?
I said "Look man, a-what time is it?"
He said "The clock on the wall say three o'clock
Last call for alcohol, so what you need?"

One bourbon, one scotch, one beer
No I ain't seen my baby since a nigh' and a week,
gotta get drunk man so I can't even speak
Gonna get high man listen to me,
one drink ain't enough Jack you better make it three
I wanna get drunk I'm gonna make it real clear,
I want one bourbon, one scotch and one beer
One bourbon, one scotch, one beer

The usual place we go the deal is 5 shots for $10, that’s pretty cheap in my book and there’s some serious drinking done.

That shot deal would be bad news for me, I'm glad the bar I go to doesnt do anything like that.

As far as songs

"However Much I Booze" by the Who
and this one
"Lets get F****d Up" by Start Trouble

I know there a bunch of fellow rugby players, past & present here-
Should we give these folks a glimpse into the golden archives of Rugby Songs?
(Since this is Community & not W&C- I doubt we could include much here.)

Well, you could start and it would be quickly moved to W & C where you would be free to continue. I tried playing rugby, but I had really torn up my knee playing american football in highschool, and when I aggravated my knee playing rugby and went to see my surgeon he basically told me my knee had been too damaged in the first injury to ever be able to handle contact sports again. Too bad, but I don't want to have a knee replacement at 28 so I guess I better listen to him.

Any tom Waits. Also the Tossers "we'll Never Be Sober Again". For good Measure I would throw in the Pogues "Dirty Old Town" it's not really about drinking but it sure does put you in the mood to throw em back.

+1 on the Pogues.
"From the Boys of the County Hell":
"... lend me ten pounds and I'll buy you a drink..."

CALIFORNIA DRINKING SONG
Oh we had a little party down in Newport
There was Harry there was Larry there was Grace
Oh we had a little party down in Newport
And we had to carry Harry from the place
Oh we had to carry Harry to the Ferry
Oh we Had to carry Harry to the Shore
And the reason we had to carry Harry to the Ferry
Is that Harry couldn't carry anymore.
Calif, Calif, the hills resound with the cry
We1re out to win or die
Calif. Calif, we'll win the game
Or know the reason why
And when the game is over
We'll drink a keg of booze
And drink to Calif., til we wobble in our shoes
So drink tra, la, la, drink tra, la, la,la,
Drink, drank, drunk last night
And drunk the night before
And we're going to get drunk
Like we never did before
.Cus when we're drunk
We're happy as can be
.Cuz we are the members of the Soused Family.
Oh the Soused family is the best family,
That ever came over from Old Germany.
There's the highland dutch, and the lowland dutch
And the rotterdam dutch, and the Irish.
Sing glorious victorious
One keg of beer for the four of us
Sing glory be to god that there are no more of us,
.Cuz one of us could drink the whole thing
Damn near.
Here's is the Irush, dead drunk
The lu cky stiffs, they've had four fifths,
And there was granny
A swinging from the out house door
Without her nighty
And there was grandpa, telling her to swing some more....

an old drinking song I learned when I was about 12 from my best friend.

Dave

This is very surprising and enlightening, so far only one song has been mentioned that was on my list. Rugger mentioned Tom Waits "The Piano Has Been Drinking". But, it may not make my final cut, my wife said, "That song makes me feel like killing myself". Not the effect I was looking for.

I couldn't find that Waylon Jennings/Willie Nelson song about the shirt, and nobody mentioned my Nelson pick "Whiskey River Don't Run Dry".

I didn't have the mentioned Toby Keith pick, what I had was, "You Ain't Much Fun Since I Quit Drinking".

What's surprising about that bar with the 5 shots for $10 is that it's in New York City, Astor Place, amazing.

Some really great picks folks, keep 'em coming.

That Waylon and Wille song was on the radio for a very short time,it's on an album called Clean Shirt,it's about a drinking trip to Mexico.I tried to include songs that you don't hear every day,Whiskey River was a gimmee.Your Toby Keith song works just as well. There are quite a few good drinking songs from the late sixties and early seventies in country music,if your interested check out songs by Leftie Frizzell and Moe Bandy & Joe Stampley.I'm sure I can find some more if I look through my CDs.

In Munchen steht ein Hofbrauhaus

Ein Prosit der Gemutlichkeit

After a liter or two of good German dunkle, everyone can sing these songs.

Suicide Solution...Ozzy

Ozzy has long said that "Suicide Solution", a song about the dangers of alcoholism, was written as a tribute to former AC/DC vocalist Ronald Belford Scott (Bon Scott) who had died an alcohol-related death in 1980. However in 2002, the writer of "Suicide Solution (Ozzy's former bassist and main lyricist, Bob Daisley), revealed that the song actually alluded to Ozzy himself.

Honorable mention is Beer Drinkin' and Hell Raising
