favorite European folder?

I just got the new issue of Blade yesterday and I read a great article on the lost charm of old world European knives. Does anyone have a favorite Euro folder? Mine definitely is the Puma Universal folder. I just got one from ebay in very good condition. It's got lovely thick stag scales and I'd imagine it could tackle just about any chore a hunter would encounter in the field. Not that I would give up any of my Spydies but these old world knives are just made so right and 200 or so years of field experience can't be wrong. I can just picture some old gent wandering the woods of Bavaria with a double barrel cradled in his arms and a Puma on a belt sheath. So do you guys have a favorite old style Euro knife?

My "favorite" european folder would be France - they fold at the slightest pressure.

Mine is an Italian Pattada knife from Sardinia. It´s my edc.

run a search on google and you´ll come up with pics.

I believe that the most popular European knives in the U.S. are either Victorinox or Wegner. Who doesn't have an SAK? I am also a fan EKA.

I hate to say it.., but my favorites are defintely the Laguiole Slip-Joints. Really terrific knives, and it's too bad their Government has there head up there azz :(

Here is another vote for Laguiole. They are real beauties, though a lot of knockoffs are around :(

I'll have to add my vote to that one too, they have a wicked sharp blade, and it is my going out to dinner knife, I won't cut my Filet Mignon with nothing else.

2. SAK Super Tinker
3. EKA Nordic T8
4. Opinel #8 (CS)

Well, I'm a huge Victorinox aficianado. However, someday I really want to get one of these Chambriard modern Laguioles.

Hey gorlank, in that photo you posted, what is that bottom knife? The single blade folder. I really like the looks of it.

Higher end Laguoiles are great, Opinels and Victorinox are good too. I guess we are talking mainly European patterns here, I collect a lot of the German slipjoints but these are mainly American patterns (I think): Stockman, Canoe and Trapper.

Gorlank - sweet little collection there.

I´ve lost two I really liked, one was a folding hunter with main locking spear blade and saw, stag handle and fancy bolsters that belonged to my grandmother (I don´t remember the brand, I believe it was bought at the Boker shop in Mexico, but it was not a Boker). The other was a Boker 6 blade camper (boy scout pattern).

I also have several Opinels and think they are great. I really like SAKs but don´t think of them as "old style"

Hi mnblade,

The bottom knife is a Weidmannsheil (sp) german lockback. Actually this one isn't that recent just been sitting in a drawer for a while. I feel it's a bit better made than the ones making the rounds on ebay with the boar's head on the shield. Thanks for the link, those Laguioles are really nice looking knives!

Laguiole :)
