Favorite file handle type?

Hey fellas I was just reading Matthew lomas thread about a sweet file rack he just made and once again I noticed another person with golf ball handles.

Just wondering what everyones favorite handle type is and maybe why. I have seen everything from golfballs to stag to the cheap things I happen to have that came with a cheap file set I bought a while back. Mine seem to work fine but I remember reading someone saying that with golfballs you are pushing with you arm instead of your wrist. Are golfballs really more ergonomic or are they just fun? I have never used one because I hate the idea of epoxying something on my file I may not like.

Once again, Thanks guys.

I find the golf balls to work amazingly well and with a cheap bag of 20 from walmart being only like 6 buck it is well worth giving it a try. I find it easier all the way around. I can really lock my arms in place and kind of push with my body if that makes sense? Also it makes minute adjustments in your stroke very easy. As for epoxy, no need. Just drill an hole big enough for the end to fit in then tap it the rest of the way in with a hammer. The hole expands to accommodate the tang and locks on. It won't come off by accident but you can easily remove it intentionally.

Thanks for the reply I will have to try it. some of our customers live next to golf courses so we are constantly picking them up so they dont get flung out of the mowers.

I rarely if ever use handles on my files but will have to give that a try.

I think you will find you like it. It is also much safer. A file tang through the hand really sucks!

Never had an issue. I learned at a trade school many years ago from a guy that never used them. Ofcourse we were working aluminum so it was a little different but ever since I rarely use handles. Maybe occasionally on the very large files but medium on down didnt see a need. However am always open to learning new things so will give it a shot.

The Nicholson black/gray handles are comfortable. The Nicholson red symmetrical screw on handles are ok if the file shank is the right diameter.

Neat handle! I didn't realize they made something like that. I tried something similar to that with wood. I came back to round or knob shaped. Seems to work much better with grip and angle adjustability being much greater. Now if I could only find mini golf balls for my needle files lol.

Made in Canada not CCC

Indestructible and cheap.

The originals are translucent yellow, I've got some that are at least thirty years old.

Different sizes fit different files

I use dried corn cobs. I pick them up for free in local farm fields. They fit my hand well. They are naturally grippy. They are also biodegradable.
