I recently sharpened my 7A and Mini Comm. This time around, i noticed that the edge is alot nastier, and slices like a razor, and just feels evil, when i finish with my grey 704 Profile stone. I still went on to the white fine stone edge out of habit, but next time im considering the coarse finish. Those edges felt like a raptor claw!

So

What is your favorite finishing grit for Emerson knives?

I usually finish my Emersons at 600 grit when using my Wicked Edge. It leaves a really nice toothy edge.

For Emersons, I use a leather strop with 3000 grit compound on one side and 6000 grit on the other. It keeps the edge bevel mirror polished and crazy sharp and only takes about 1 minute to touch up the edge. At $20 or so, for a two sided leather strop mounted on wood and some Bark River Stropping Compound, it's what I would recommend to anyone learning to sharpen their Emerson. The leather is much more forgiving of errors in positioning than any flat stone.

I have flat stones and a Wicked Edge, but I've never tried the WE with an Emerson and only use the flat stones when I've chipped or rolled an edge which doesn't happen often.

Not sure what grit they are but I generally use well worn in diamond sharp maker stones then strop.

Not my emerson but it is a asymmetrical grind finished to 3.5 micron on the wicked edge.
