Favorite fixed blade in wilderness

Normal carry for me is a Swedish Mora. Since I always have a sak with a saw blade when in the woods, I want a knife that is all about cutting efficiency. I like the scandinavian grind on these knives and they are so light and inexpencive I keep one in the truck, one in my daypack, and one in my boat bag. They are tough enough to baton with and you can make a frame and leaf hut pretty quick with one if you practice a little.

I'm at the stage of life where light weight and real world effectiveness is utmost in importance, and the Mora's fit in. When I was young and full of viniger I carried a Randall 15, but got rid of it for being too heavy and inefficient. I never did anything with the Randall that the lighter knife could not.

My second favorite fixed blade would have to be the Ontario 12 inch machete. You can go a long way with a sak and 12 inch machete. Or a sak and a Mora, depending on terrain and season.

I have a CS SRK. It is cheap, light weight for it's size, and REALLY tough. Light weight is the key thing for me because the things I do in the wilderness often involoving packing my kit a long way on my back.

I like all kinds of different knives for my wilderness travels. I ended up sticking the longer bladed knives in my rucks and carry a BRKT NorthStar on my belt. I also really like the scandi blades and the Mora 2000 or the Swedish Army Knife are usually close by.

kabar fighting knives by far,

i use them for hunting, fishing, and i even carry one to work with me to the dealership.

wsk never leave home without! i dont have a very good one right now just a quick one i made from a spare bar of 5160, but its still a very good knife. gotta get working on my good version.

It varies for me. Lately it's been a mora, but mostly I've been testing some knives I made and all survived. :D

I've had good luck with Marbles Woodcraft, Grohmann #4 Survival, Coldsteel SRK, Mora 2000, and the Mora 4" S1 carbon. The Mora 2000 was the best slicer of the bunch, but I prefer the tip on the plain old Mora. I think that the new flat ground Grohmann #4 might be the best of all.

I like to have a small fixed blade and a machete with me. My favorite small blade is a Newt Livesay NRGS neck knife with cord wrapped handle. I have it set up as a PSK knife with a rubber sleeve over the kydex sheath. For me this is the perfect size knife for small detail tasks. My machete is a simple 12 inch Ontario or a simpler Tramontina. The machetes are disposable blades and when they are too beat up and ugly I give them away.

I love my BK-7 and my USMC Ka-Bar as well. There are situations in which I carry either of them and leave the machete at home. I carry a SAK when I have a seven inch knife. Mac

For now my Swamp Rat Battle Rat is with me everywhere in my Bag, backed up with a Victorinox multitool on my belt and my Benchmade 5000 stucked in my pocket. I love the Battle Rat (or any other good 9.5") because it's big enough to handle most survival tasks, yet usable for small works, it's very sharp and very strong so I can rely on it.But a 9.5" won't help if it stay at home, so that's why I carry it in a bag. Yesterday I got a BK9 and it seem to be very cool too for the price! I'm about to test it! more pics and infos to come!

Now you sound like me. Every month I get a new favorite.

I have carried numerous knives over the years, and I have always come home to a few favorites. I like Fallkniven (that is no secret) F1, S1, and the WM1. I also like the CS SRK or Recon Scout. I carry an OLD puukko, Frost and Mora. I have recently traded into a BRK Highland. That seems to be a sweet knife. I also have a couple of customs from Daniel Prentice that work real well.

I have many used to be favorite's in my Knife cabinet. That's why I decided to have some custom's made just for me. (add to that the fact that I need more knives) My wife thinks that knives can't be e sharpend so I need a new one when it don't work anymore!! ;)

it seems like I alwas take along at least three knives for a stay in the woods a cold steel srk, a sog feild pup, and a large bladed bowie that was made from a large file but as of christmas I have a ontario marine bowie to try out and so far the one I got seems pretty good although may have to make a better shealth for it.At time one of my moras gets out in the feild as well. Also most of the time I take my ewing axe and a swed saw seems like alot of cutting edges to carry but my back seems to take the extra weight alright.
