I am looking for a fixed blade knife that is not a custom and is well suited to fighting. As this will be the primary use of the knife, besides using it for general utiliy 99 percent or more of the time.

Well, in the production side, maybe a Cold Steel SRK, right at 6" I think. Nice inexpensive knife, but strong enough to handle about anything you can toss at it.

Maybe one of the Busse basics...I think they come in 3 and 5 inch sizes.

Becker companion. Never handled one, but I hear good things about them.

Although its none of my business, can I ask why ya dont want custom?

You should try the Fällkniven S1 and the Camillus Close Quarter Battle.
These are very nice.

At just over your limit(6.3"), the Fällkniven A1 is a damn fine piece. You should look at the rest of their line also, I don't think you could go wrong with any fo them.

The "new-style" Cold Steel Stainless Tanto could be just the knife that you're looking for. Mine has a six-inch razor-sharp AUS-8A blade. This is one well-made "factory" knife.

Mated with the On/Scene Tactical Concealex IWB Sheath, this makes a GREAT pair.

I feel "well-armed" when "packin'" mine.

The Becker Campanion is a great knife but its large handle and stout design make it a "camp" knife thus the name. Too bulky to carry in the military IMO.

The Nimravus Cub is a personal favorite of mine but I hate the sheath. I had secondary sheath done and like it better.

The Camillus Cuda looks good though I have not held one. Their pricey talonite Talon is nice.

Don't sell the Cold Steel fixed blades short, either.

You can find a PUMA bowie right at 6" for under $80 all over the place now that they are laser cut.

Just some thoughts. My favorite custom fixed blade is my Ed Fowler Proghorn though and when the $hit hits the fan that is the real bugger I am grabbing.

I like the Nimravus Cub, but my favorite production fixed is the Camillus Talon. It has a blade that cuts like crazy, and is easy to sharpen. I really like Talonite.
For the price of the talon(less actually)you can get a Lightfoot Pitbull, or quite a few other custom knives, so you should not disregard custom knives completely.

Favorite fixed less than 6"? That's easy,

STEAK KNIFE!

At least the one I use most!

The Company Knife (6 1/8 in. blade) is a great defensive knife. Also check out the U.S. Marshall (4"). I believe he will also be able to make an IWB sheath if you want it. He has a lot of other good designs, too.

I am going to walk the line by suggesting an Allen Blade Steel MEUK, they can be had for about $90, the handle can be fitted or modified to suit your needs.

I have two of them, and I have yet to meet a 4 inch bladed knife I like better.
