Favorite Handle Material!!!

What is your favorite handle material for:
Bowies
Hunters
Fighters
or Art knives

I mostly make hunters, and for them I prefer sambar stag and wood - amboina and masurbirch are my favorits these days.

Most of mine are hunters as well. If they are going to be abused then it's hard to beat Micarta. Having said that, abusing a handcrafted knife is like moose hunting with a Ferrari.

It doesn't take much to hold on to a hunting knife, so I think the main purpose of the handle on a hunter is to impress the other guys at hunt camp. It's really hard to beat exotic, richly figured wood for that.

Of course, I've seen pictures of some Titanium handles that look really nice too like;

i haven't found anything that works really well. does anyone else know how to keep it from darkening?

After you sand cocbolo, the natural oils work their way to the surface and cause a little darkening. I think that's unavoidable. However, I understand some of the darkening is from UV exposure. The easy way to avoid this would be to keep the knife in a dark box but that wouldn't be much fun. There are finishes available which claim to protect against UV exposure. I haven't tried them but they might be worth a shot.

bobh,
i cannot delete threads in this or general forum or it would have been gone long ago.

and no i wont email you first, as i am entitled to my opinion just as you are.

sorry if you all feel i am the bf grinch but dont you all get tired of really stupid questions?

i want to ask seriously, why do you even want to know someones favorite handle material for a style of knife? you gonna go order one immediately? to me its like asking a guy his rubber size, or his brand of car. like who really cares? it gonna effect your knife buying? you gonna buy the same car just cuz this guy drives one?

Yep, I agree, these same old tired questions are getting old real fast. Favorite this, favorite that, what should I buy, tell me what knife I like, does this make my butt look big?? Geez people, use the mind God gave ya and actually make a decision on your own, I did that once, felt great.

BTW, may favorite is Walrus Dic...oops, I mean Oosic. One of these days many years after we are all gone, people will be posting 'Richards Peck...errr...Richard Oosic, good for handles??'....Hopefully a big chested blond womwn buys it and displays it proudly on her wall.

UPDATED and REVISED

UH Tim,
No I am not going to buy a knife.
I am in the process of making my third one and I am trying different blade styles out. I am looking toward the future and trying to figure out what to use for handle material. Trying to keep from wasting time and money.
Being very new to knifemaking is challenging to say the least. I am greatfull for all of the advice and opinions (Good or bad

)
It has helped me tremendously in avoiding alot of the mistakes others have made.
Being able to get advice from some of the top makers in the world has been great AND keeps re afirming my decision to keep at it untill I am making good knives.
I DO mention Bladeforums to everyone I talk knives with!!! No joke.

Fight ,Fight Fight.
the forums are for question be it whatever
if you don't like the question don't post an answer,there are alot of other post you can reply to,we are all here to help each other
there are no dumb questions,just rude answers
just my thoughts.
