I was just wondering what your favorite handle materials are. Personally, I prefer wood, usually hickory or walnut. I like it becuase 1, it looks good, and 2 it gives a nice grip without sticking, and 3 its durable and easy to replace, unlike bone, horn, or ivory.

Resiprene C. for fixed blades. It's comfortable, reduces shock and vibration and is impervious to liquids. Carbon fiber for folders.

Depeleted Uranium!

The weight helps balance a large blade, plus it keeps my hand warm in the winter! :D

Seriously, though, for a working knife I usually prefer canvas micarta, closely followed by G-10. Sturdy, consistent and provides a nice grip.

OH YEAH!

I like G10, micarta or dark hardwoods. I don't see the appeal of bone or horn. It seems too brittle and fragile and it makes the knife look too antique for my tastes. I know sambar stag is the ultimate handle material to some but it doesn't do anything for me.

Micarta is really tough to beat, especially black paper or with a little color. About the only thing that grabs me more is polished G-10, but you don't see it too often.

First choice stag, second choice amboyna. But my tastes run toward the old-timey things. I don't even own a knife with a synthetic handle material, nor do I plan to.

Synthetics I really like the feel of G-10, micarta is a close second. For natural, wood only, bone and horn just don't do it for me. I really like highly figured woods and burls. A good redwood burl is a thing of beauty in my eye.

Nice amber stag is my favorite. I'm partial to any nice looking sambar stag. Next would be a toss up between jigged bone and wood. I've got a few ivory micarta that I like, but I avoid synthtic handles for the most part.
