For all the people out there with a wide variety of the kami's work I was just wondering who your favorite kami is

Considering all Kamis, or just the current ones? I personally like Bura, Rajkumar, Sanu, Kumar, Sher, Dil, Yuvraj, Tirtha, Lok, Vim, and a few others. Some definately have their signature skills, but all can produce a quality blade.

Durba.-- all time favorite

Tirtha-- current favorite

Thamar-- I got my eye on this one as he may displace tirtha.

Is there a specific reason people like the kami they do, is it that they are better at creating a certain style than others, is it a better fit and finish or just a type of personal preference

All of the above.

Some are known to overbuild their khukuris (some people like that), producing distinctive fullers, a sharp edge, can produce exceptional items, such as swords, or a certain type/style of khukuri, still others are very good at customs, etc...

When you hang around the people here, you learn a lot, really quick. The veteran forumites are extraordinarily knowledgable, and can provide so much insight, that they alone could fill up an encyclopedia volume on just khukuris alone.

I swear that no matter how much I learn about blades there is always so much more I can learn

All of them! Bhakta makes the blades I like best, Lachhu close second. Lokendra and Hari also made superb blades, but I think they have moved on some time ago.

I have several Tirtha's and a few Rajkumars and of course Bhakta. Some of the others. All good.

I don't have the well trained eye that some have to distinguish their distinctive traits.

I only have one Bura (thanks Gehazi) but I know he's known for his refinement and extra effort. You can see it in pictures of his blades, I can only guess how magical they must be in person. I'd love a sack full of bura's any day.

Well for me its Bhakta, the WWII is really a piece of artwork to me than a tool. Think I'm gonna leave it perfect and not cut anything with it. I have a 16.5 in 25oz villager on the way that will be used for everything, I cant wait to see how made it.

Gotta show my man Lachhu some love. The Gelbu Special I received from him was like a mythic blade and radiated perfection.

My AK Bowie by Bhakta is my favorite so far... I have yet to experience some of the great ones. I am leaning towards learning what each Kami's specialties are and then wanting to have something from them there. Bhakta makes a mean o' bowie

This is a harder question than favorite kukri...

I've been impressed with every piece of HI work I've handled. I might be able to pick out specific things I don't like on one piece of work but overall the Kamis perform stellar work.

The work that Thamar is currently producing is some of the best I have ever seen... anywhere. Perfect fullers, excellent weight to length ratio, non habiki bolsters, no cho creep, ornate cho work, and its just something he does with the curve of the blade and handle that screams vintage, authentic, master at work.

I need one of his dui chirra kukris right away.

I have never not liked a kami's work-but the two whose blades most fit my khuk ideals are Bhakta and Tirtha. My CAK by Bhakta is much leaner than the usual CAK, and ground lean and sharp.
The gelbu by Tirtha (props, Gehazi!) i have is light, seriously distal tapered and went from very to outlandishly sharp with little effort.
I haven't handled a Thamar (yet...) but his stuff is so oldschool i'm gonna go ahead and put his stuff in my top three.

Seems to me like each kami has a niche and specialize in a certain style. I don't have nearly all of the kamis covered, so favorite is hard to say. But my favorite HI blades in terms of craftsmanship are an AK bowie by rajkumar and a siru by lachnu. Look forward to getting a kumar and a lok blade who are not represented in my collection.

Love Kumar -for for his old world style and attention to everything.
Tirtha- because he can make anything short, small, fat, wide, sword, etc ...Fullered, nonfullered...GCB-AKB.
Bhakta and Lachhu -for their nice fullers and balance.
RajKumar -for his graceful swords and refined finish work.
Bura-I only have one but need I say more:D
Yuvraj-Everything he makes is downright gorgoeus! Wish I had a Sher.
Vim- Where im from Bigger is better! a Master!
Keshar Lal-Perfect KLVUK every time. Classic:thumbup:
Thamar-Im with you guys! This is one Kami I hope stays around HI. Love his authentic style. Yek Chirra is a favorite now:thumbup:
Lok-Cool BCAK rocks. Dont have anything else.
OK Now I gotta pic one! ...sorry...cant do it:confused:
