I was wondering what the ONE favorite knife that you, or a family member, has owned that you treasure the most. Pics would be great, and appreciated; but, the stories and the why's are better yet. It does not have to be the knife that you EDC or the knife that you safe queen; it does, however, have to be the one knife that you treasure the most. Please do not take this opportunity to say I love this knife, but here are a handful of knives that I like as well. One Knife, to rule them all.

This is an easy one!
Mine is nothing fancy, a rather simple knife.
However, it was made by Tony Bose, one of the best. And it was made for Bob Lum, who carried and used it regularly. Now, it's my most prized knife. I miss you Bob!

I had one of the original Al Mar Hawks with the rice linen micarta scales that was my favorite knife until it got "lost". I still want to replace it. My Silver Knight 250C is the one I cherish most (in a production knife) and currently I am really enamored with the Sodbuster Keith Johnson made for me.

Here it is with my Avatar knife (can't forget that one!):

BTW, in case you didn't know, all of my knives are my favorite; some are just a touch more favorite than others. And it changes from time to time.

Let's please limit our discussion in this thread and forum to "traditional" knives. Otherwise it may as well be moved to the "General Knife Discussion Forum". Thank you.

I had an old Samual Barlow of Neepsend(1780-1840). A small razor bladed barlow with integral iron bolsters and stag or petrified bone scales. The scales were a bit warped but the knife was tight as a drum. The rust that was on the blade was so fine that I licked my fingers and virtually wiped the rust away. I bought the knife for three dollars, and when I saw the stamp, well, you can imagine how my heart was pounding. Thats the one knife I wish I had back.

A Schrade Old Timer 123OT pattern my Grandpa gave me, it was my only knife for a long time and used it for everything.

for me it has to be my little parker lock-back. SS bolsters bone scales with a sailboat scribed into it. this knife belonged to my grandfather, but wasn't an edc for him. It sat in his stationary tray on his desk and he used it to open letters etc. He was a politician of sorts so he didn't really have a knife in his pocket at all times but I always remember seeing this one on his desk. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

I haven't had to think of it like that..... "favorite knife ever". I am fortunate to have so many at this stage of my life.
I'll have to say my most sentimental knife is my favorite ever. I received an Uncle Henry 225 folding hunter for my 11th birthday 33 rears ago. I used it to dress my 1st deer and many more. Fishing, hiking, times with my dad.
I have regulated it a safe spot in my collection and have about 10 others of same pattern form assorted makers.
When it was gifted to me, dad told me he wanted to see me using it when I was 80 'cause it was a real good one. He was right.
Well dad, I'm a little more than half way there, and I'll use a lot more on the journey. Wishing he was here this season, but he's gone on to his reward 4 years this feb. Merry Christmas:)
....well I'm golden so now I can post a pict link easier....

I can't just pick one. It has to be two, but I have a good reason for it...

Some time back, a fellow member and friend here, who shall still remain unnamed at his request, posted a picture of some knives he had picked up from a collector. They were mint condition Schrade Waldens, and I made a comment that they were terrific looking knives. Some time later, I received these two in the mail. I was completely speechless, and treasure these knives very much, as well as the friendship that has developed.

I know you said only one knife, but for some of us, that is impossible :D

I don't own this one. It belongs to Elliott (Blues), but I don't think he will mind me posting it up. The first time I saw it, I couldn't stop looking at it...
I bookmarked the picture, because I go back every once in awhile just to stare at it :D. It puts a big smile on my face, and makes me drool :D

I really like red bone Case knives, but seeing this knife in red bone, really took everything to a whole new level.

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the good words on Bill's knife and also my good fortune in acquiring it from another forum friend who had been the original owner.

Hi David -

It has to be this small knife that belonged to my late step-father.

I will pass it to my son when I go.

I have related the story prior, but I had purchased this for my stepdad, Harry, and he always had it with him.

One day my mother told me that Harry was very upset but would not tell me that he had lost his little knife. I searched and found and identical replacement for him. Later, he found the original (pictured above).

When Harry passed, I received both knives from my mother. I gave one to Harry's grandson, and I kept this one for me. I like to carry it on Harry's birthday.

best regards -

I've often mentioned here my first knife. It was a SAK Huntsman that I saved up for and bought when I was about 12. I can still remember the agonizing weeks while I was saving my money, looking at all the different models and trying to decide on the perfect one. I carried that knife every day for almost 20 years through all sorts of good and bad times, and I used and even abused it hard. Although it is pretty scarred, it is still fully functional. I don't carry it much these days, but a lot of my life is in that humble little knife so I am as attached to it as one could be to a material thing.

I ought to set myself up to post a pic one of these days. The scales are all scratched and pitted, the main blade is stained from battery acid, and it has been sharpened so much it is almost a sheepfoot.

This one is my sentimental favorite. Actually, not this one, but one like it. A man I worked for in high school was like a second father to me. He bought one of these in 1980, and showed it to me several times, knowing I loved knives even then. When he passed away a few years later, I tried to contacted his widow to see if I could buy it from her to remember him by, but she had already let his stuff go to others. After a number of years, I was finally able to snag one myself. I've never used it, although he used his regularly to filed dress his geese when hunting. I keep it on display in the bedroom so that whenever I see it, I think of him. I've had many more knives throughout the years, but this one remains my favorite.

I've posted this before, I don't have too many knife stories. 30 or 35 years ago, my folks gave me a Victorinox SAK. It was not a SAK I was familiar with, it was thin and didn't have the tool selection of those wider SAKs. The handles were were red but they weren't plastic, they were metal. I carried it in my left jeans pocket sometimes with coins. As I used it, it developed some scratches and the paint started to fade. The blades were used hard over time and I wasn't very good at sharpening. After many years of carry, I set it in a drawer and forgot about it.

I became interested in pocket knives again a few years ago and bought some traditional and modern style knives. I pulled out that metal handled SAK, de-burred, cleaned, lubed and sharpened it up. It opened and closed better than most traditional knives I'd tried. I learned the scales were called alox and it was the Pioneer model with brass liners. I bought a Soldier and put the old Pioneer back in a drawer. It's not an expensive, custom knife with fancy scales, but it was from my folks and dad passed away a few years ago. I pocket carried it more than any other knife and beat it up pretty good. It took me years to bond with it because it was not a model SAK I was familiar with. Now it's my most treasured pocket knife. I enjoy many different kinds of knives, but I usually EDC a Pioneer or a Soldier these days. They're inexpensive, good quality, and have a great tool selection.

I bought a 13 year old Pioneer to carry and keep my old one in a safe place.

Its tie between Victorinox Soldier / Pioneer and Queen Dan Burke Small Barlow. I got 3 soldiers 2 pioneers and 2 DB barlows.
