what are your favorite knives no longer in production? The Gerber Bolt action and A.G. Russell Sting are ones that come to mind? Any others??

Interesting subject. Unfortunately, my choices are hopelessly conventional. I'm sure others have more esoteric brands and models to mention.

Most missed:

REKAT SIFU - A big, BMF of a knife. As a friend remarked upon seeing my BladeForums D-2 Special Edition version, "This is the kinda knife that makes you want to go out and look for trouble!"

Yeah, I know there's the popular Mad Maxx megafolder but I prefer folders that look like folders...not like a Klingon jousting weapon; just IMO. I hope Brothers and Taylor launch a comeback some day.

Runners up:

Spyderco Q - Those flimsy little folders with the cool cut outs. Not a great EDC, but a fun knife and selling at premium to collectors on EBAY!

Benchmade 750 Pinnacle - BM gave the budget conscious, who couldn't afford a Sebenza, a less expensive alternative to owning a "tough as nails" ti-handled framelock (or monolock as BM called it). Sure it wasn't as precision made as the CR knife, but it could be had for under $100.

Although these are the ones I miss, I'm lucky enough to have mint in the box versions of them all.

I always wanted a buckmaster but I couldn't get one because I was young and had no money. I guess I'm too late.:(

I had one that I used as a field knife when I was in the Marines from 82-86 and it was a very good knife.

Heavy, held a good edge and came with a good sheath.

I don't have it anymore because my EX sold my whole knife collection before I could get back to get them....The only knife I had was my CS Tanto because I carry that one.

She sold 15 knives for a total of $200.. Someone got a deal, over $2000 in knives for $200...

I certainly miss the old style Al Mar knives. I wonder what the company/products would look like today if Al were still alive?

As a 16 year old I vividly remember an oldtimer showing me a knife I have dreamt of ever since and one that I believe subconsciously drives me yet; a Colt/Woods folder! It was an awesome knife for a young'un who had only seen slipjoints to that time.

Spyderco Wegner :(

The first thing I wanted to do when I heard it was discontinued was get into the fetal position and start crying. It really sucks when you find the knife that fits you perfectly only to have it discontinued.

Shootist> I know of a place where you can pick up enough Wegners(Jr and Sr) to satisfy your cravings...

I'd say mine are:
Tufram Cricket
CF Cricket(still want one of these)

The CRK Umfaan (going through re-design) and the original SAK. It would be cool to see Victorinox do a run of these.

Most of the knives I like I can still buy, it is just a matter of money. Two knives I wanted as a kid were the AG Russel Sting and the Cold Steel Urban Shiv. These two knives would probably sell well today as neck or multi-carry knives.

... the Busse Combat Knives Wakizashi. I don't think Jerry makes them anymore unless it is a request for a custom. The short sword was made from A2 tool steel before he went with INFI on all his present line of knives. It was functional, durable, simple, reliable, and a beautiful piece of work. I waited a year and a half for that piece and it was worth every penny. One of my more prized acquisitions. :D

I have a long in the tooth EDI GenI that I love to this day. It is beat pretty much now but the lock up is superb, ergonomics very good for me and I can still get it sharp as a razor. Anyone have one that is in pretty decent cond. they would like to trade me for my 710? As for fixed blades my Olsen hunter I gave to my oldest brother. Great fixed blades. Keep'em sharp

I'll put another twist on this...in the realm of custom knives, some of my favourites are no longer available because the maker has died ...I would have loved to get a "real" Rambo knife from Jimmy Lile...
