Please vote for your favorite lock type. This is just your own opinion, you don’t even need a reason, but if you have one go ahead and let us know.

Being a left handed person, the Benchmade Axis lock opens a whole group of knives that I normally would not be able to use. I also feel it is one of, if not the easiest to open and close one handed.

You forgot the plunge lock! Usually found on auto's but also available on the manual MOD CQD and CQD Mk II.

My favorite thus far is the Axis lock. Spyderco's compression lock seems promising as well though.

Axis is pretty darn slick, had to pick that one, over the integral even, just so handy! Love my BM940! Heck I love them all it seems!!

Good thread James,

I've come to appreciate the Bolster Lock,
Combines the strength of a frame lock with the looks of a traditional bolstered folder- Best of both worlds.

While I voted for the lockback I also prefer the slipjoint to complement the lockback. Both are simple,
well proven and effective making an ideal carry pair.

Plunge/button lock! I knew I'd forget one right in front of me (Literally, a BM 3500 sits on top of my monitor!)

recoil, thanks, and I'm with you on Allen Elishewits Bolster lock (like that Janus, huh? ;)). I wish I could put in more options, as I might place the bolster lock in the frame lock catagory, but would prefer to place it in a modifed frame/liner lock catagory along with the CRK Mnandi. Maybe throw in the BM 330 and the WH Evolution line as well, those are another pair of toss-ups.

The "something you missed" is the good old "fixed" blade pocket sheath knife -- actually it wasn't fixed; it just wasn't broken in the first place.... :)

Right now we have exactly half the votes for the Axis lock, including old timers, er, mature members like Gary opting for it. And only one measly vote for the Lockback  What is the world coming to?

While I had to pick the Axis as my overall favorite, I think it is worth noting that different locks have different benefits. The Axis Lock is strong, convenient, and flexible, which makes it a killer combination. The Rolling Lock is at least as good unless you need ambidextrous controls. The Integral Lock is strong and mechanically simple, which could be an advantage in survival situations.

Thanks! ;)
I feel all growed up now!!

Mature does sound better than Old Timer, unless you're talking about a knife by the same name...

and looks like I picked the right horse to ride this time, that axis lock is really neat fast and locks up well, I've not had problems with mine but when it does then I'll probably not be as enthusiastic about them ;)

When I snap out my SB1 (which I rarely do since the L-UDT arrived) and hear that thick Ti liner thunk into place... Now that is what I call a lock. It's just that a good liner lock takes A LOT of skill to execute.

The plunge lock is also pretty damn solid. I've probably fired the MT over 200 times and it refuses to wobble.

I know that LAWKS isn't a lock per se, but it sure makes a difference to me. I guess it is like wearing "belts and suspenders."

Tho I voted for the integral lock, and believe the Axis to be a great lock, I must admit to some real curiosity about the Spyderco Compression lock, and the CRKT BladeLock. Guess I need to buy 3 knives, so can speak intelligently about the subject. Think I'll go for the Vesuvius. Then again, maybe the Griptilian. The Bladelock can wait.

Forced to choose I voted for the Axis lock. But it alone would not determine my knife choice. The REKAT rolling lock, good solid well made lockbacks, and even a rare few liner locks are A-OK with me as well.
