What is you favorite man made handle material? What is your favorite color in that material? Why is that your favorite material? On a scale of 1-10, (10 being best) how would you rate the strength of that material?

Thanks in advance,

G-10 bead blasted black looks good, feels good, tough as nails, impervious to the elements 9 rating

My favorite man made material is linen Micarta. It takes a very fine polish, is quite strong, is totally waterproof, has interesting patterns when contoured, and comes in a variet of colors. G-10 is a close second, but I don't feel it polishes as well, there are fewer available colors, and it slightly more hazardous to work. Dymondwood is great stuff for knives that won't encounter quite as rough use (it chips). Here is my loose list (doesn't take into account weight or chip/crack and dent/deform differences), strongest at the top (I included some woods for reference):

Carbon Fiber (10)
G-10 (9)
Canvas Micarta (8)
Linen Micarta (7.5)
Paper Micarta (7)
"Ivory Micarta" and other epoxies (not phenolics) (6.5)
Corian (6)
Dymondwood (5)
Cocobolo (4)
Maple (3.5)
Pine (2)

Titanium,
with single color anodized accents - blue. I presently prefer understated accents ala Boker.
Strength - 10, natch.
Thanks

Lynn,
I have been using a lot of the genetically enhanced woods lately. Most people think that those fancy woods are natural and have been epoxy impregnated in a vacuum..... NOT! The trees are secretly grown on a plot of land inside area 51.
I like they way they work, finish, last and catch peoples eye. They can also be finished in several ways that give them a good grip.
My second favorite is the candy stripe celluloid, like on the old folders!! I think that would look cool on.......Never mind, gotta go, the X files are starting....

Personally, I like Titanium the best. Annodized in any color. It's a perfect 10 in my book. I prefer metal handles for the most part. I take aircraft aluminum over G10 any day.
Then again, it depends on the knife too. A sterling silver handle on a collector knife that will never see the outside of the case is very nice too.

i personally like G-10 and micarta about the same. i realize that G-10 is a little stronger, but i like the elegant looks of micarta. for strength, i give them about a 7. aluminum, titanium and stainless steel are all much stronger, but they transfer heat and cold to the users hand. that's why i like the glorified plastics better. as far as color, polished black micarta is nice, bead blasted G-10 is also, but polished maroon micarta takes the cake for me.
