Thinking of getting custom made scales for my BK2. What do you guys prefer? Natural materials, man made? Just to get some ideas flowing.

Like everything else, it depends. I like wood for smaller knives, ones that I wont be abusing. Micarta is indestructible so it goes on the big boys.

Ok guys thanks for the replies. I might (depending on cost) end up with two different pairs; G-10 and maybe some sort of burl.

I would like to get some micarta but for the cost the original grivory with an bicycle inner tube stretched over it works plenty good. I'm also thinking about non-skid tape on one.

I've seen several nice replacement scales on ebay this past week. There were a bunch of 'cryptoglow' scales that are cool in a novelty sort of way and a few nice micarta sets for the neckers. Here's a few pics

I'm partial to the blue cryptos, and the red/black micarta myself

I have looked at the glow handles with interest but seems I see something in the description that says they are soft and flexible. That has held me back wondering about their durability. They are pretty nice looking though.

They are not soft nor flexible according to Ark who owns a couple pair of those. I think they are just soft and flexible enough to not be too brittle to be used as handle materials. Ark said it feels more like the grivory than anything.

right now, I'm very satisfied with micarta and grivory.

when the tweeners come out I'd like some blackthorn.

Off topic: how do you guys get these exotic woods?

I wish I could find thick enough carbon fiber sheets to do some large handles in that. That would be SWEET. I do mine mainly in wood, but I have G10 and micarta in my shop now, so you'll probably see a few different things from me moving forward here. Love the cocobolo though, especially when I pick out the boards with the most interesting patterns. Not such a big fan of just the straight line stuff.

I guess I'll find out in the next couple of weeks. I'm working on 2 sets right now. One's a Laminate wood and the other is micarta. Both will go on the BK10, and then whatever I like more I'll make a set for the Necker.

to answer a question, i get my exotic woods from a store called woodcraft. they have tons of nice hard woods and they have several stores all over. Be careful, its easy to get carried away in that store
