I just finished watching "Gladiator." I really like this movie! Is it just me, or do the rest of you find that most if not all of your movies contain blades in it? For example, some of my other favorite movies are
"Braveheart," "Last of the Mohicans,"
"Robin Hood," "Prince of Thieves," and even "Terminator II" had some blade play.

Hmm.... good point. Also let's not leave out "Conan". Oh sure, it's kinda' campy but it's good fun and there are some choice blades in there

And, "The Patriot" just for the tomahawk scene.Ooohh and "The 13th Warrior" with some darn fine pattern welded blades. Mabey if we sent the Kamis a VCR and a few movie selections......Nah

I guess I better mention it here!

Few weeks ago I watched a TV serial named VIP starred by Pamela Anderson - A KHUKURI MADE AN APPEARANCE IN IT! It looks like a BAS or WW II model. I did try to identify any sort of HI logo at the blade but failed to do so! The next few days my working colleages talked about it during lunch!

Here's some of my favorite blade/action
films;
"Rob Roy" 1995, with Liam Neeson & Tim Roth
set around an 18th century Scottish legend
it features well filmed and thought-out
sword play.
"Exposure" 1991, with Peter Coyote & Tcheky
Karyo. Modern Brazilian film with excellent
and bloody knife fighting scenes. This one is not for the kiddies by the way.
"Cyrano De Bergerac" 1990, with Jean-Paul
Rappeneau. Just plain old sword play fun
set in France. Rappeneau is charismatic
in this role.

All past mentioned movies are good ones. I also have always enjoyed the Three and Four Musketeers, with Michael York, Oliver Reed Charten Heston , and on and on for the big stars that were in that version. Those movies had lots of fun swordplay. Much humor involved through out both movies.
Another great blade movie is Cyborg with Jean Claude VanDamb, There are even alot of Khukhuri style blades used in it. One of those far fetched post apocoliptce type movies, but fun none the less.

Yup, you guys listed some great ones: Gladiator, Braveheart, Rob Roy (BTW I think that one big scene is scottish bastard sword vs. Rapier of some sort??? Not sure about that. Cool fight scene anyhow! There is a company that makes nice swords out of , yep , you guessed it 5160 spring steel--diferentially hardened called Kris Cutlery. Not sure of the web site, but I have 2 of their swords: Celtic Leaf Blade (incredible!) and Katana--good value for the money, but highly doubt it comes close to Everest Katana! OH, speaking of Gladiator they also make a Roman Gladius, like the ones Russel Crowe used. Cool thread.

I have seen some of the movies listed, but not some others. And I have a membership card at Aardvark's but seldom use it, mybe I should rent the ones I haven't seen and broaden my education on long sharp pieces of steel.

I wrote about an experience I had one time and then thought better about it and that's the reason for this edit. Just paranoid about some things.

I second Bill's vote for "The Man Who Would Be King", especially in letterbox format on a large screen.

A kukuri makes a brief appearance in "Entrapment", at the throat of Catherine Zeta-Jones. And speaking of movies featuring CZ-J and blades, don't forget "Zorro".

OK, here're mine--not trying to copy you guys, but I guess we just happen to like a lot of the same flicks.

(in no particular order)

The Patriot
The Matrix
Gladiator
Braveheart
Rob Roy
Memphis Belle
U-571
Payback
Saving Private Ryan
Last Of The Mohicans
Mutiny On The Bounty (1984 version with Mel Gibson)
Das Boot (Director's Cut)
The Hunt For Red October
Castaway
The Sixth Sense
The Untouchables
The Road Warrior
Forrest Gump

On a related subject, has anyone else seen the British TV episode series "Sharpe's Rifles" starring Sean Bean (played the IRA terrorist in Patriot Games)? Sometimes it's on Detriot PBS. It's a historically accurate story about the exploits of a fictional character, Richard Sharpe, an English soldier who rises through the ranks from Private to Lt. Col. in the Napoleonic Wars. Great series with top notch acting and directing and highly recommended. The fight scenes could have a bit more realism, but that is my only criticism. My wife and I check them out (read: FREE) at the local public library on VHS format. Apparently it's the best kept secret in the library--highly overlooked and underrated.

X-Head mentioned most of my favorites. Here's a few more.
Anything in the "Alien" series of movies. No knives but lots of teeth and guns!
The Outlaw Josey Wales
Quigley Down Under
The Rough Riders
Seige of Firebase Gloria
Tombstone
The Ghost and the Darkness
Legends of the Fall
Ronin
The Postman (not at the top of my list but not bad either. Kostner has a khukuri in the beginning of the film)
I choose not to have television in the house so I see lots of movies.

I'm VERY much looking forward to seeing Enemy at the Gates this weekend!

Jaeger, are you my lost twin? (If you are, I would probably be the evil one--I take no pride in that)

How could I leave Tombstone and Ghost & Darkness off my list?!?!?

And I'm chomping at the bit to see Enemy At The Gates also...for those who don't know, Ed Harris plays a German sniper in WW2 sent to hunt down and snuff out a Russian sniper who was made into a hero in order to revive morale in the Russian Army as well as national pride. This ought to be good. Though with movie ticket prices for 2 people, my wife and I prefer to wait and buy it on DVD.

I haven't seen a 1st run movie in I can't remember when, oh wait I can too!!! It was Smoke Signals, but that was special because it's an ndn flick.
biggrin.gif

And a good one that portrays some accurate ndn life in this day and age.
biggrin.gif

I do want to see Crouching Tiger though and Enemy at the Gates, but don't know if we'll get to them or not. And it's not just the cost of the tickets, but the crowds and lines that puts me off as well.

And another good ndn movie is The Emerald Forest but it's about the So American ndns, old movie now
though.
It's supposed to be based on a true story. I still rent it on occasion if we're gonna be rained or iced and snowed in for a few days.
And if you haven't seen it Powwow Hiway is a good one for laughs and also portrays some accurate ndn life in today's world.

Saving Private Ryan was one of the last ones we rented and in the 1st 10 minutes I had to stop it and go outside for a smoke to decide if I wanted to watch it or not. We did watch it,but it brought back some old memories of an uncle that had been in similar situations and still cried about it long after the war was over for the country and the world.
It was never over for Uncle Lewis.
I am grateful I knew him and for what he did.
