I was just wondering what everyones favorite type of opening method is:
Thumb stud; hole; flipper; wave etc.
Favorite without gloves, and fav with gloves.

Let me know. thx.

well, for fast opening either a thumb stud or a opening hole is fine. With Gloves I honestly would not like to use a knife that has an opening mechanism. With Gloves I would go with the buck 110 because its real easy to open and close even with thick gloves on. The 110 is my favorite knife and I don't even see a huge need for thumb studs etc. in my case, although for other people these features may be a necessity.

I like the opening hole or the flipper the most, but i have not had enough time using a knife with gloves to know what i like best for that.

My first choice is a opening hole such as Spyderco uses. Second choice will be flipper.

I hate knives that only have a thumb stud.

Flipper. If the pivot is smooth, I can open a flipper knife just as fast as a push button auto.

Haven't worn gloves in years so that's moot. My folders form the gamut of every opening system extant but the older I become the more assisted openers are appreciated.

my 'opening' method operates thusly:

unsnap the fastener on the sheath.
remove knife from sheath.

done.

fixed blades FTW!

Flippers all around. Flippers that also have a hole or thumbstuds is a definite plus.

Normally, any well executed thumb stud, hole, disk, wave, auto, flipper or whatnot will do. As long as the maker/manufacturer designed and made the deployment method properly, you'll have an easy and fast way to deploy the knife.
For gloved deployment, I prefer the thumb hole. I've used many knives with different deployment mechanisms, wearing gloves, and have found that except the flipper, thumb hole or OTF levers, won't be easy and at times impossible to actuate.

Wave of course... see vid at 0:57

The knives I carry most often are Spyderco/Byrd knives, with thumb holes, so I guess that's what I prefer because I use it more often. i can get by just fine with a flipper, however...thumb stud, also acceptable as long as it doesn't bite into the thumb and take skin off. It's not that I really prefer the Spydie hole...it's just that of all the knives I own I prefer my Spydies, so they get the most pocket time. If I run into a design that I just love, and it doesn't have a thumb hole, that;s not a deal breaker, and I will adjust to it just fine.

I generally don't use my knives when I have gloves on. Being a student in suburbia, I don't find myself outside needing to cut things very often, and if I do, it's not for an extended period of time, so I usually just take my gloves off (especially because if I do have to cut something in a public place, outdoors, I'm more prone to reach for either a slipjoint or small MT I have in my pocket).

I like thumb studs and flippers the best. Thumbholes work great, but they can ruin the looks of a knife IMHO

With glove though I like holes the best so I'm a bit of a hippocrite. And ghetto waving Holes with zipties will also get me past the ugliness.
