Whats your favorite outdoors traditional knife? As a kid, it was my Schrade Cave Bear, a 34OT and a Western W36. All three are gone, and I wish I hand't sent them to new owners. My little brother has the Western, and he has been using it. The Cavebear was overkill when cutting open bales of hay, but hey, for a young teenager it was fun. Broke the tip off the Cavebear by driving it into a frozen fence post top, and yanking it out:mad:.

So, what do you carry outside?

I dont realy have a favorite, but my case small texas jack is prety good. I have used it heavy over the past year, as an edc and my out door blade and I love it. I have cleaned more trout, panfish, and squirrels with it than I can count. I have also used it to gut 2 deer, and skin 9 of them. I also use it for fuzz sticks, whittling. For a fixed blade I love a thin boning knife 5 - 6 inches long, in a home made leather sheath. Joe

If I know I am going to be working outside I will normally put either my Sodbuster or Cold Steel Twistmaster in my back pocket. Both are great for light to medium outside chores.

Mine has changed over the years.

As a kid, I swore by my scout knife. Later, I carried a stockman, and that gave way to sodbusters. Sak's drifted about the edges, and gradually I used them more and more.

If I were picking a traditional folder today for woods going, I tend to have a soft spot for the soddie. As much as I love a peanut for around town, the simple, tough, sodbuster is a hard act to top.

Sorta wish I had grabbed one of those back in the day!

The Twistmasters aren't hard to find NIB even now, expect to pay between 20-40 bucks for one but just watch the various auction sites. I have seen them frequently on ebay and gunbroker both. Most of the online stores that have them want up to 70 but if you are patient you can score one for much less. If you search various forums 30-35 seems to be the price. Clip points seem to be the most common, followed by tantos and then by drop points.

Another fan of the CASE Small Texas Jack for outdoor work.

Barlows are used in the garden a fair bit too.

A small sheath knife is very handy, I just got a Bark River Pro Scalpel II,excellent compact knife.

Have to confess that a yellow handled....no not CASE or Camillus Yello Jaket...but BM Mini Grip gets a lot of outdoor trips,it and the Trads do mix & co-exist peacefully!

In the yard its usually my beloved Western little fin:

Paired up with either a TL-29, or a hawkbill.

Sometimes I do use my primary wilderness/outdoors tool in the yard, just to practice:

I like my Case CV Yeller Trapper if out of doors. It seems to be the perfect size and heft.
