Hey everyone let me start off by saying if this thread has already been done let me know and i'll try searching again but what i'm wondering is for those of you who are in Oregon or Washington where are you favorite places for day trips, over nighters, hiking and aything else in between? I find myself going to the same location for all of my outings and i'm looking to broaden my horizons. Any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance :)

I think googling you state parks for hiking and camping is your best bet, or look for a hiking forum specific to your area, best of luck and happy trails.

I spent some time up around Big Muddy Creek. I can't remember the name of the park, but I think the nearest town was Ione. That's in Washington, btw. Absolutely beautiful. Although they didn't name it Big Muddy Creek for no reason. I would deff go back though.

My sister's family is from Vancouver, WA and they took us to Multnomah Falls, Wahkeena (sp?) Falls, and some places on Mount Hood. We want to go see Columbia Gorge and they've said we'll use the Beacon Rock trail. Not sure if this helps, since I'm not real familiar with the area, but those were all good hikes.

Come to British Columbia instead.

A trip to BC is going to be a gift to myself when I'm finished with school! Thanks to everyone else. I'm going to have look up these places.

mrn8 i'm in Vancouver and multnomah falls was the first trail I ever hiked up. I didn't plan on doing it when I first went to the falls because the trip just started out as a day trip with my cousins and grandparents to go see the falls. We were having a good time down at the bottom but then my grandpa told us we could head to the top of the falls and look down from the top. One of my cousins and I thought that sounded like a cool idea so we started up the trail not knowing what were getting ourselves into and it turned out to quite the hike up to the top. We figured we had gotten in over heads when the more experienced hikers with their day packs and trekking poles were flying past us up the switchbacks while we were bent over trying to catch our breath but I loved every second of it and its what sparked my intrest in hiking and the outdoors. I was only 13 at the time so I probably just remember the whole trip being much worse then it actually was but then again we didn't bring any water and it was one of those rare hot days we get every once in a while.

Live near Stevenson, WA about 45 miles east of Vancouver.

I really like the Gorge and the Gifford Pinchot Nat'l Forest...!
Should you be interested, we're having our annual knife-centric campout this coming weekend:
8th Annual Great NW Mischief

LOTS of great places 'round these parts!!

Cheers,

I frequent the area around Riffe and Mayfield Lake all summer long. SW Wa.
It's not all that far from Mt. Rainier. One of my favorite places on planet earth. Good camping and lots of trails.
