When you think of collectible and loved patterns.....

We all think of canoe, trapper, etc. What coveted, rare patterns catch your fancy?

Dog leg & Eureka jacks. Jacks, with sabre blades (stabber type).
Trappers with a clip main blade & pen, secondary blade.
Nice patterns.

Hmmm, 3"-3 1/8" dogleg jacks -- they're just scaled down doglegs - same design, same heavier duty main blades with the same swedging. They were made by a number of the great old companies before 1940, vanishing as a pattern after that. And no, a peanut will just not do, thank you. Two blade-one spring premium stockman patterns -- in the originals, they normally had a clip main and a short spey or small spear pen secondary -- what I want would be a clip main and a secondary sheepsfoot or short wharncliffe or short clip.

Mine is probably the equal end cattleman. Like this old Imperial...

I'd have to agree with Vince! Eureka Jack, Dogleg Jack,
But I also love the Bent Gunstock Jack! and Coffin Jack.
All of these IMHO are timeless! Always will be great patterns.
Each one feels nice when the main blade is open,
the secondary blade is placed right, So it doesn't
bother you when cutting with the Main Blade
Bent Gunstock, the secondary blade almost disappears
when it's closed. Great knives each one,IMHO.
Merry Christmas to Everybody!

*Here are a couple Winchester patterns, Dogleg and Coffin!*

I'd like to see that 2 blade stockman described by zerogee. That would be really nice.

I'd also like to see a two blade jack like the Case 6232 pattern with a wharncliffe secondary or sheepsfoot about the same physical size as the pen secondary they use now.

AG Russell had a custom built by Joel Chamblin along the lines of a modified two blade-one spring stockman - he calls it a "gentleman's jack" -- not quite what I'm thinking of (I'm thinking rounded premium stock bolsters with more serpentine body - about 3 5/8" long), but close enough for gov't work as they say: two blade stockman with clip main and wharncliffe -- second knife in post. Somewhere around here I've got an original rather worn version - if I can find it I'll scan it and put it up.

Teardrops with a broad leaf Spear blade.

Certain Pruners from c19th England, but 2 bladed.

What Dwight has described really appeals too, 2 bladed single spring rounded 'Stockman' Could it have Spear and small Clip too? Might not go in that frame....

Farmer's Jack. I would like to see one with a longer main blade more like a warncliff than a pruner.

If it is old and in decent shape I don't care what it is. I used to have an old TL-29. I wouldn't mind finding one of those again. Christian, that old Imperial is in great shape. i thing they were Army issue. here's mine with a "patch" in the handle.

I have a soft spot for coke bottle jacks, razor jacks, and cotton samplers. I have a Case coke bottle, but have yet to acquire a razor jack or a cotton sampler. Small trappers with spey blades that have really swollen, butcher knife-like points are a soft spot as well. The only one I have is one of the Chinese-made buck mini trappers and the only other trapper I've seen on the market with a spey the way I like it is the Case model 2100 large saddlehorn. Now that thing is fat!

I just can't get over these. Such a practical pattern yet since the Remingtons you really don't see other knife companies duplicating them.

I had one just like this one when I was a boy. It was my most treasured possession.

Someone stole it when I was in college! >:(

Yep. There is a simple, traditional feel to these equal end cattelman patterns that make me like 'em more and more. This one with the swedged main spearpoint and long pull along with two additionally useful blades is a great example.
