I'm looking into getting a nice sharpening setup, and have narrowed it down to an Edge Pro Apex or Wicked Edge. For those of you have have one (or both) of these, how do they fare when sharpening the ZT 03xx series recurved blades?

either system will work well...i'm an edge pro guy and i get my recurves done easy...

I'll second the Wicked Edge. It's been a real dream, and handles the recurves just fine. It's really the edges of the stones that dip into the curves, and they abrade the material just like the other areas.

WEPS offers semi-round stones that work exceptionally well for the recurves. Like Knotty said, "go big or go home".

I don't own a Wicked Edge, but I have some edges that have come off one and they're the sharpest edges that I've ever experienced. The whole reason I'm doing corn detasseling this year is to get a Wicked Edge.

I don't even think the curved stones are necessary.

If you have a recurve you want to have done on the WE, I'd be happy to do it for you. I sharpened Knotty's Blur, as well as my own and they came out quite nicely.

Yes it did!!

From what I've read on the Wicked Edge Forum, you just kind of "ride through the recurve" portion of the blade.

Was it you I purchased the green CF/154 blur from? It has quite an edge on it.

I love my edges from my wicked edge. All my Kershaw & ZT recurves look good.

This thread comes at a very opportune time for me. Recently i was offered the chance to be part of a wicked edge group buy but was on the fence. I think this thread has pushed me over the edge so to speak.

Is this a group buy that anyone can get in on?

Have had my WEPS for a couple of years now...took a long time (months) to get system after ordering (result of off shore manufacturing- China) Too bad they are not sourceing here in USA.
After I had used system for a while, I added a set of leather stropps...coated stropps with Wenol metal polish (SemiChrome works also). The finished edge is just as Lumppy88 shows above in his photo ... mirror polished edge. Think the balsa stropps might be my next purchase...I would suggest buying just the stopps and passing on the diamond paste as it is not necessary, if you use Wenol or SemiChrome on the strops.

One day I would like to get a nice sharpening system but right now I only free hand on an old aluminum oxide stone, I'll just leave it I'm not consistent enough for free hand. I'm looking for a sub $100 system which works well on recurves. I've been doing some research and I'll most likely to pick up a Lansky Diamond Deluxe kit and with an extra fine stone. Anyone have had any luck with this system on a recurve?

I'm glad to see I'm the only one who does this. I haven't tested on the ZT recurve yet (though it should work), but I'm a big fan of the spyderco double stuff for sharpening too. It does a great job for touching up and even more thorough sharpening if I haven't let anything get too dull.
