Favorite Sheath? Sheath Material?

I like 'em all, but lately I've started to like the cordura sheaths with the kydex liner. I used to like all kydex, with tek-lok. Leather sheaths are ok, but I don't like it when they get all dry and cracked when they get older, especially if maintenance is an issue.

For my users, I prefer the standard Kydex lined Cordura.

For my fancy smancy Busse blades it's Kenny Rowe Leather. :D:D

What Bravado said :D he hit it right on the head!!!!:D but I like wearing things bigger than the NO cross draw like the swords they are

For out and about casual carry I like to wear my Mean Street (SOB & IWB) in one of GPB's Concealex sheaths.
The same knife also has a sweet Kenny Rowe leather pouch sheath that I use while camping, fishing, etc.

My Natural Outlaw and Badger E both have high ride Rowe leather with a forward cant off the right hip. These are the best IMO for outdoors romping.
I also have a GPB Concealex rig that I will occasionally carry the Badger E in (also SOB & IWB;))

The bigger blades (SH & BM) wear either the stock Kydex lined cordura or a similar system done in leather (done by Kenny of course:cool:.)

I also have a couple cross draw leather Rowe sheaths for my Aftershocks that I absolutely love! They are perfect for the field, especially if you have a smaller blade on one hip:)
The frog button also makes them completely versitile for quick on/off without fiddling with a belt all the time:cool:

Welcome excoraire! Please stick around and join in on
our discussions. I hope you weren't in the flood
zone.

Style - Snap over guard high ride
Material - LEATHER, LEATHER, LEATHER!!!!!
Positioning - 45 deg cant 'cross draw'

Did I mention I love leather? If leather had legs, I would marry leather. If leather....sorry too much info...:o

Thanks for the welcome.

The floods are in this area, but not at my house---missed me by nine miles as the crow flies and some few feet of elevation. Brownwood is nine miles from here and was flooded, and Abilene is an hour north and west and had some high water in places. Not too far to the river bottom from here---just far enough for me. Rather be flooded than burned like the folks out in Nevada and California---at least I know how to swim, like most folks around here...............:)

excoriare,
Welcome to the Busse forum. Hope you can stick around.
Glad you weren't hit by the floods!!

It really depends on the knife, the garb and the mission. If I'm just knocking around with the Basic #5, then a kydex horizontal cross draw is right. Sometimes the NO/E rides in a Kenny Rowe SOB. I also use horizontal SOB kydex for a backup or other purpose fixed of about 6 inches or so. I not a big fan of danglers and try to avoid needing a thigh tie. Sometimes, when situations warrant, I will cover the outside of the kydex sheath with the silent material used for archery equipment. With all of that said, I also like the wisdom-filled simplicity of the Project 1 sheath which is sileny yet secure.

Bottom line: it depends on the knife, the garb and the mission. Other than the fact that I am in and around water (often seawater) much of the time, I prefer leather but do not use it much.

For most uses, I like a horizontal kydex in crossdraw. This keeps the blade out of my way yet easily accessible. I do like cordura-kydex sheaths, as the pouch is very useful.
