Im looking to grab my first SAK for general edc and back-up with my spydercos. The huntsman seems to be an obvious choice but as always i would like to hear some opinions!

- (i only have my motorcycle, and do not often carry the key, so key-chain ones are out)

Thanks in advance,
Micah

I'm a fan of the Alox line; the old style Soldier/Pioneer specifically. Good all around toolset, a bit beefier blade. Classy looking too.

Hi MEJ. I have and use a Super Tinker. It is a very useful knife and it usually gets used at least once a day. It has two blades a small and large spearpoint, a pair of scissors, a phillips screwdriver, can opener that is also a flat screwdriver while the bottle opener is so a small screwdriver, a leather punch, a hooked blade that I don't know what it does, and that is all. It does come in handy, especially the scissors. I don't know what all the Huntsman has. The Mechanic is a nice sak and one to check out, while the Deluxe Tinker has a pair of pliers to the Super Tinker. Mine came in a nice clip on sheath that I think is very nice.

Tbere are a multitude of saks to look at, Victorinox and Wenger are the two most popular. I favor Victorinox saks and the suggestions I made are all Victorinox models. Hope you find the one that fits your needs!

ugh there are so many choices, the alox's are pretty nice, so are the wooden handled ones. Thanks for the ideas ill have to mull it over.

Im really liking the wooden spartan.

It depends on what tools you find yourself needing more. I like the Super Tinker because it has scissors and a Phillips-head screwdriver. If they made the Compact with a Phillips-head instead of corkscrew, that'd be my SAK of choice.

Super Tinker has the tools I need the most in a reasonable package. I'd be a lot more inclined to get an Alox SAK if they included the toothpick and tweezers on those models.

For me...

At work I carry my Executive. Orange peeler for the win :)

If I'm going out I'll bring my Alox Cadet w/ bottle opener.

If I'm hiking, have my backpack, etc. I'll take my Fieldmaster which has just about everything I would want in an SAK.

OH and I've got the Rambler on my keys. Lost the toothpick unfortunately.

Seriously, no recommendation for the Trekker?!?! You have to check it out.

I like all the interest in SAKs I've been seeing over the past week or so. I have three, a Super Tinker, black Classic, and an Alox Farmer. The Farmer is my all time favorite. Bigger blade and cap lifter, really good saw. I'm carrying it right now. If I could only have one SAK, the Farmer would be it, no question.

I carried a farmer for a couple of years and really liked it. My only problem (kind of) was having to carry separate tweezers. When I lost it I replaced it with a hiker with stay glow scales and am pretty happy with it. Good luck choosing. You may end up getting more than one!

I only currently have the Hiker. Great to throw in your pack for hiking, and its always in my car, but I don't like to carry it as it's a bit bulky in the pocket.

Looking for a thinner one with a cork screw as I might start working in the wine industry soon, even though I'd probably never actually use the cork screw. it would be symbolic mostly.

As far as SAKs/Multitools go it's been a Midnite MiniChamp on my keychain and a Huntsman either in pocket or EDC bag for years. Add my Leatherman Wave and and Squirt P4 I've had most bases covered. I now keep the Huntsman and Wave an a custom Skinth case that Eric (from Skinth) made for me.

I forgot to mention that I've got near 30 SAKs and have EDC'd other models including various Alox but always return to my current setup for EDC.
