Who makes your favorite thumb stud? Mine are Larry Chews rubber inlay and Larry Davidsons slant style thumb studs.
Chews rubber inlay goes perfect with his voodoo pivot smooth opening. The rubber gives a perfect grip on the stud and has that little bit of "give".
Davidsons slant stud has the best thumb purchase without having the roughness that other studs have.It is also positioned in the perfect spot.I do'nt have to move my thumb up or down to open the blade, its right where my thumb is when I pick up the folder.

Forgot to mention this does'nt include ampidextorise discs or holes in blades(Spyderco)

Chris Reeve thumblug. Umfaan or Sebenza. The "skin catcher" groove milled into the projection just below the top hooks onto the skin of your thumb, so the action is not as sensitive to the size of your hand and thumb as with other thumbstuds I have used.

My least favorite thumbstuds include those that rely on application of downward pressure to open them (like the CRKT S-2 just to name one), I find that my thumbs tends to slip off, hence, I don't trust them.

Side-pressure thumb "pegs" such as those used by Benchmade on the 940 and William Henry knives are a little better, but their action is not positive enough for me.

Until I got my new Umfaan and Sebenza (both today!)I have favored Spyderholes.

Don't have a favorite, but I can tell you my least: Buck Cross-Lock. Sucker cost me part of a thumb and 12 stiches. Still don't have all feeling back 5 years later. That was the only knife I ever threw away (actually threw it in the river).

Actually, now that I think of it, I love the thumbstud on my Atkinson combat folder.

make GREAT thumb studs. Just NEVER try to mail them. Right Dann!!!!!:D :D :D

Favorite thumbstud? Not the Sebenza or the SERE 2000. Most of the thumbstuds I have seen on Sebenzas have been sharp and pointy. I managed to find a large Classic Sebbie with a nice thumbstud, however, and it is now one of my favorite folders. The thumbstud on the SERE 2000 catches on my pocket, but I still love the folder. If I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be the disc on the spine, like on a Bob Terzoula folder.

Wolfmann601,
Damn right, buddy!.:(..

My favorite thumb-studs are the 2 sets of oversized ones that Ray Murski made for me that are now on my 2 REKAT Sifu.:).

Gotta be my LCC. Nice and wide with a gentle sloping stepped conical radiused stud. I do like the Spydie holes too.

Really like the disc type found on the Emerson/Benchmade folders. They're the fastest in to play for me:).

1. Emerson thumb disk for user
2. The TAD Tritium Thumbstud on my Strider GB for looks.

Regards,

Ed

As much as I love the little knife, the stud on my Umfaan eats my thumb up. Of the ones I have I like the ones on my Chews, Apogee, and LCC the best in that order. Honerable mention in my experience goes to BM 2nd gen Leopard Cub.

I'm witcha on Larry Davidson's angled and stepped version. Immediate purchase for the thumb.

Crazily, I like the checkered thumbstud on my Vallotton Espionage. It give a good grip, for this substantial blade.

I have a couple of William Henry's and it is the LEAST liked component of their otherwise fine knives. They polish the darn thing, and it's just too damn slippery.

The best small stud I have is on on a delicate 2" oval folder with smooth scales--it's a stud with the center countersunk, so it has a circular bite. Very effective for this type knife.
