Favorite thumbstuds?

I'm a Spyderhole kind of guy. But variety is the spice of life and there are too many good knives from too many companies to just limit myself. I want to know what is your favorite thumbstud design because most other one hand openers use thumbstuds.

I myself prefer the thumbstuds on the Microtech LCC. Other companies should take notes. The LCC's thumbstuds are the perfect size and don't dig into your thumbs like smaller thumbstuds do. They also provide the right amount of purchase without feeling abrasive. Plus the thumbstuds are optimally placed so that upon opening the thumb follows its natural arc.

What knife has the best thumbstud design in your opinion and why?

My favorite is the one found on the cold steel vaqueros. They offer enough room to get thumb under the stud and they don't eat your thumb up:thumbup:

Anything that doesn't slice or gouge. Sometimes the holes are just sharp enough to cut in with some pressure appiled.

I don't know if this is technically a thumbstud or not, but what is the opening device on the MT Amphibian?

I like the spyderco hole the best, and then i go with the flipper, handy and fast, disc is third. later, ahgar

I like the studs that keep out of the way, like on the Camillus CUDA Maxx or the Kershaw stud lock. Otherwise I grind them off and put a hole or grip pattern in the blade.

Hard to believe, but I have a Gerber Harsey Air Ranger that has nice thumb-studs.

what do you guys think of the one armed bandit? I was thinking of adding one to a buck 110, but I can't find a brick and morter store to try it out.

The ones made by Benchmade are very comfortable. As in, don't raise blisters or peel skin off of your thumb.

The most comfortable thumbstud I have ever encountered, on the many folders that I've handled or owned, is the one on the Carbon Fiber version of the S&W SWAT knife.

Yeah, I said it! Hate me now. I don't care. We're talking about comfortable thumbstuds.

I like my MT LCC thumbstuds as well. Some will disagree, but I actually like the thumb studs that Chris Reeve uses on the Sebenzas. It's small and unobtrusive, but it works perfectly, if you use it correctly. I think it's all in the arc of the movement. The two mentioned just fit my hands perfectly.

Of course the Spydie Drop is only possible with a hole in the blade, so that can be an issue. My Kiwi is easy to open that way, and a stud would be in the way on a knife that size. Same with the thinness of some of the other Spydercos. A stud would be in the way.

If you're including customs,Larry Davidson's slanted thumbstud is great(very easy to grip & comfortable).Scott Cook's Lochsa has a similar thumbstud just smaller.
Larry Chew made thumbstuds with a rubber insert that helped (then again Larry's folders open so smoothly he probably does'nt even need a thumbstud:rolleyes:

My fave is called a Spyderhole. Nothing to lose, no screws to mess with and no knurls to peel skin although every now and then the edges of the hole have to be beveled a bit to smooth them out also.

I'm a knife knoobie, and (so far?) have only a Delica and a CRKT S-2. I like the spydiehole, but I gotta say that S-2 I bought on sale on a whim works works real well for me.
